Iran bans using U.S. dollar as base import pricing currency

01:30
Taking U.S. dollar down! Iran moved a step closer to a plan to ditch the dollar in its trade activities by announcing that purchase orders by merchants that are based on the greenback would no longer be allowed to go through import proceedings. Iran’s domestic media reported that the policy was in line with an official request by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and was specifically meant to address fluctuations in market rates of the dollar. IRNA news agency quoted Mehdi Kasraeipour, CBI’s director of Foreign Exchange Rules and Policies Affairs, as saying that the move had become effective from Wednesday by virtue of a letter sent to the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade. Iranian scientist takes his "water-powered car" for a spin

01:06
Iranian scientist Alaeddin Qassemi unveiled his new invention, a car that he says is powered by water, in Karaj, Sunday. The car can reportedly run on 60 litres (15 gallons) of water and is able to travel up to 900 kilometres (559 miles) in 10 hours. The power is generated after H2O is split into hydrogen and oxygen which react chemically to produce energy. According to the inventor, the car's engine only produces water vapour, causing next to zero air pollution. A litre (0.26 gallons) of water can reportedly generate some 96 megajoules (MJ) of energy while a litre of gasoline produces only 29 megajoules (MJ) of energy. Africa Today - Fear of Pan-Africanism: propaganda war against united Africa

23:15
Kwame Nkrumah, the president of Africa’s first independent country, described Pan-Africanism as “The total liberation and unification of Africa under Scientific Socialism.” It is an ideology and movement that encourages the solidarity of Africans worldwide. It is based on the belief that unity is vital to economic, social, and political progress and aims to “unify and uplift” people of African descent. Leaders like Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso and Patrice Lumumba of the Congo were assassinated by agents of the CIA because of their revolutionary Pan-African stance. Recent history shows that, as a movement, Pan-Africanism does not have the same force as it did during the anti-colonial struggles. Later this month, African leaders will go to the US to attend the UN General Assembly in New York.

Daesh given 48 hours to leave enclave near Damascus

02:03
The Syrian army has reportedly given Daesh terrorists 48 hours to withdraw from an enclave, south of the capital Damascus. According to Syrian media, the army and allied forces are ready to launch an operation if the terrorists refused to surrender the enclave around the Palestinian Yarmouk camp and the al-Hajar al-Aswad area. Government forces had begun shelling terrorist positions on Tuesday in preparation for an assault. The area is much smaller than the eastern Ghouta region which was recently retaken from foreign-backed militants. The Syrian army and allied forces have gained swathes of territory from the terrorists by launching military operations or by letting them leave to other parts of the country. "U.S. withdrawal from nuclear deal unites Iran, China, Russia"

03:19
Russia and China say they would try to block any attempt by the United States to sabotage the nuclear deal between Iran and the P-Five-Plus-One group of countries. Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Wang Yi told reporters that Moscow and Beijing think the US withdrawal from the JCPOA would be counter-productive as it reduces years of talks to zero. Iran’s Foreign Minister has urged the European signatories to the accord to encourage Donald Trump to stay in the deal and begin implementing Washington’s part of the bargain. Germany’s Foreign Ministry says European leaders are to warn Trump about the deterioration of the situation in case of US withdrawal. Earlier, a top UN diplomat demanded all parties to the Iran deal comply with the terms of the agreement. Russia warns EU against controlling Africa

02:17
The foreign affairs minister of Russia, Lavrof is in Africa to seek closer economic and political ties with the continent. His visit is timely since Russia is currently suffering from sanctions applied by the European Union and the US following its involvement in Ukraine. Russia’s intends to expand its economic ties with Africa while its economy is now affected by the ongoing sanctions. Moscow has signed a mining deal with Zimbabwe, a country that openly opposes the western powers. It is now looking to develop nuclear energy projects with countries like Angola and South Africa. While meeting the chairperson of the African Union Russia warned the European Union against meddling in Africa’s affairs. Russia is openly de-campaigning the imposers of its sanctions in Africa. It has disclosed that during the Libyan crisis while it supported AU’s idea of having political dialogue, the other western countries supported the NATO bombing of Libya that ended Muamar Ghaddafi’s 41 year reign and led to a civil war. Some analysts feel that welcoming Russia now might jeopardize Africa’s relationship with the European Union. The European Union is the chief funder of the African union commission, peace operations in Africa as well as Africa’s biggest trading partner. Before now, Russia has had minimum involvement in Africa.

"Yemenis inflict heavy losses on Sadi troops in Hudaydah"

02:22
Yemen’s Red Sea Ports Corporation says the western port city of Hudaydah is operating normally despite an Emirati-led push to capture the strategic coastline, which serves as the main conduit for aid flow into the war-torn country. Yahya Sharaf al-Din, the corporation’s deputy chairman, rejected reports about a halt in the services of the Hudaydah port due to the UAE-led military offensive, which began on Wednesday. The comments come a day after an Emirati-led offensive on Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hudaydah went ahead despite stern warnings by the UN and international rights groups against the catastrophic consequences of such a military action. In the latest developments, Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported early on Thursday that Saudi artillery attacks had killed two children and injured several others of the same family in the Hayran district of Yemen’s northwestern Hajjah Province. Separately, al-Masirah reported that Saudi warplanes had dropped cluster bombs on Hajjah’s neighboring province of Sa’ada. "US missile attack a strategic mistake"

08:22
The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has strongly condemned the US missile strike against Syria, calling it a strategic mistake. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the current US officials are repeating the mistakes of their predecessors. Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the previous US administration created Daesh and the current one is strengthening the terror group and the like. The leader dismissed claims Washington could also target other countries after Syria. He noted that the Americans are into aggression and committing crimes and they have a long history of such acts in other parts of the world but they do not dare do the same against all countries. Ayatollah Khamenei also criticized some European countries over their stance on the recent suspected chemical attack in Syria. The leader says the same European governments which accuse Syria of using chemical arms gave huge quantities of weapons of mass destruction to the former Iraqi regime which used them against Iran and its own people.
