‘Zhou Qi, Don’t Come Back!’ Say Players in Nike Ad for China

01:01
The ad brings hard-edged basketball trash talk to the fore and directs it at Zhou Qi, who was drafted by the Houston Rockets NBA franchise in 2016. In the one-minute spot created by Wieden+Kennedy, we see young Chinese players getting straight to the point: “Don’t come Back. We don’t want you back here. You already won it all here. Win it there.” Uploaded with permission from Nike

Old Man's Head on Woman's Dancing Body - Funny New Ad from Akagi

01:33
We love this new ad from Japanese ice cream maker Akagi Nyugyo featuring an older man's head on a younger woman's body getting a groove on. It's one of those things you start watching and the next thing you know it's over and you're not sure what just happened but it was good whatever it was kind of thing. The wackiness of the 1:30 ad promoting Akagi's "Sof" ice cream, makes perfect sense for a brand that is known for ice cream flavors such as spaghetti and potato stew. Launched in 1981, they sell over 4 billion ice treats every year. Read more at Branding in Asia

Watch Kim Jong Un's Historic Walk from North Korea into South Korea

01:40
In what's been reported as an unscripted moment, Kim invited Moon to step over into the North. It was a wonderfully awkward moment of their humanity on display. -- A lot is at stake as the leaders of North and South Korea sit down to talk for the first time in more than a decade. The world sits back and waits to see how things play out between two nations that are technically still in a state of war and a bellweather for geopolitical relations in East Asia. One of the more interesting moments leading up to the talks was the historic entrance made by Kim Jong Un, walking across the 38th parallel that marks the Demilitarized Zone between the two nations. This is first time that a North Korean leader has crossed the iconic boundary into South Korean territory since fighting ended in the Korean War - more than half a century ago. ---- Produced by Branding in Asia Music by Quincas Moreira (via the YouTube opensource audio library) https://brandinginasia.com

Tencent "Charge for Love" Campaign in China

02:09
Tencent and J. Walter Thompson Shanghai are using a popular children’s folk song to encourage consumers to choose Tencent mobile top-up feature – and help keep rural children, left behind by parents seeking a better livelihood in the city, to remain connected with their families. Over 60 million children are living with aging relatives in China’s remote, rural villages, left behind by parents who’ve migrated to cities to seek work. These villagers are often too poor to afford phones to help stay in touch. To help these children, Tencent Mobile Top-up, Tencent Charity, and One Foundation established the Echo Plan in 2016, which since has set up dedicated hotlines in Child Service Centres in some of China’s poorest villages to allow children to make calls to their parents.

'Sexy'Japanese Tourism Ad Pulled Following Criticism

02:37
While caressing Musubimaru's big rice head, Japanese actress and model Mitsu Dan, asks him: 'Miyagi, I-cha-u?' which can be interpreted as 'let's go to Miyagi'? However, the word 'ichau' also means 'to ejaculate.' Dan later meets a turtle. And asks "Can I get on top of you?" The turtle blushes and its head grows in size --apparently symbolic of an erection. In Japanese, the word for 'turtle head' – 'kamegashira' – can also be read as 'glans' in English. After receiving over 4 million views and hundreds of complaints, the local government decided to yank it from their YouTube channel.
