It's official. Paula-Mae Weekes is this country's 6th President of the Republic and, even more historically, the first female President of Trinidad and Tobago. President Weekes' inauguration ceremony took place at the Queen's Park Savannah, where hundreds gathered on Monday for the historic occasion. Delivering her highly-anticipated inaugural address, President Weekes attempted to offer hope while also expressing cognizance of the state the country presently finds itself in. Describing her new position as a "humble servant with a mandate to render service with enthusiasm," she reminded the public that creating a better Trinidad and Tobago will require every citizen to do their part. As is tradition, President Weekes presided over her first Presidential salute - a 21-gun salute.

An Arima man, who was reported missing a week ago, has been found dead. The body of 20 year old Keston Ramdhanee was found in a watercourse at an old fish farm, about 500 metres West of Demerara Road, Arima. Police went to the farm after receiving a tip and found the body with the use of sniffer dogs. Mr. Ramdhanee's hands were bound and his body was face down in the water. A cloth was also placed over his head. Spent shells were recovered at the scene but with his body in an advanced state of decomposition, law officials are awaiting the results of a post mortem to confirm the cause of death. Mr. Ramdhanee, of Train Line Road, Arima, had been reported missing on May 28th. In other crime news, police are investigating a murder in Laventille. C News understands that a man was shot near the Eastern Main Road near the NESC building in the area. The shooting took place just after 10am on Wednesday.

Since April, seaweed has blanketed over 20 miles of the East Trinidad coastline. It started off with a few clumps of seaweed washing ashore along the Mayaro coastline that later transformed into large mats of seaweed. It had also disrupted the turtle nesting season. Fishermen have been complaining as they can't pull in their seine as they end up with seaweed instead of fish. Even though the fishermen and even sea bathers have classed the seaweed as a nuisance, others have found a practical way to utilise it while there's so much of it on the coastline.
