Top three worst names ever in automotive engineering 3. COOLANT The coolant in your radiator - the red stuff, the green stuff … it’s not there to assist the cooling. In fact, water on its own would do a better job just cooling your engine. The most common so-called coolant is ethylene glycol - the green stuff. (The green is fake - it’s just a dye.) Ethylene glycol has lots of interesting properties, but carrying heat from your engine is not, frankly, one of them. It’s only about half as good as water at doing that. Water is the commonest heavy hitter of heat transport. A technically cognizant person (every mechanical engineer on the planet) knows the specific heat capacity of water: it takes 4.18 kilojoules of energy to heat one kilo of water by just one degree C. Allow me to translate for the non-cognoscenti: water is effing hard to heat up. It takes a shitload of heat to warm water up just a bit. Therefore, it’s the perfect fluid for moving heat away from something (like a hot engine) and into a radiator, where that heat can be rejected into the air. When you mix ethylene glycol with water about 50:50 you actually reduce the ability of the liquid blend to carry heat away from the engine by about 25 per cent. The main reason for adding it is to drop the freezing point and raise the boiling point. That same 50:50 ethylene glycol and water mix freezes at about -37 degrees C - and it’s really good if the water in the cooling system doesn’t freeze - because it expands when it does and that often breaks expensive components from within, as well as rendering the car undriveable. So that’s bad. As a side benefit, together with pressurising the cooling system, a 50:50 mix of ethylene glycol in water, together with 15 PSI of pressurisation raises the boiling point - to almost 130 degrees C. It’s kinda bad if the coolant boils in the engine - it leads to a generalised class of failures fairly categorised as ‘catastrophic’. The other chemicals in the so-called coolant also have nothing whatever to do with cooling - it’s all about the lubrication (of the water pump) plus corrosion inhibitors for the engine. 2. RADIATOR I know: What’s he got against cooling systems? Nothing. I love me a good heat exchanger. Everything from cars to nuclear power stations use them. It’s just that radiators do not cool your engine by radiating. They’d be different if that’s how they really worked. Heat transfer for dummies. Heat is like water - it flows. Water flows from high to low heights. Heat flows from high temperature to low temperature. There are three mechanisms for for that flow: conduction, convection and radiation. Conduction is mainly about heat transfer in solids. Convection is all about losing heat into a fluid (pro tip: fluids are liquids and gasses). Radiation is like: You’re sitting in front of a fire. It feels warm because: Radiation. When you look at a so-called radiator, you can tell instantly that it’s not designed to radiate - if you’re scientifically literate. For starters - it’s up the pointy end of the car, and they hacked a big hole in the front of it to facilitate airflow. That’s a big hint. Anything involving airflow and cooling is about convection. If radiators actually rejected sufficient heat by radiating, they wouldn’t need the big hole in the front of the car. The sun doesn’t need any air to radiate its heat 150 million kilometres to earth. If so-called radiators actually radiated effectively, they would not need fans (the fans are only there to maintain airflow when you stop in traffic). They serve no other purpose. 1. SHOCK ABSORBER If ‘Shock Absorber’ is not the worst name in all of automotive engineering, I don’t know what is. You think about it - you drive over a pothole: the suspension droops into the hole, then the leading edge of the wheel and tyre crash into the ridge on the far side of the pothole. The tyre compresses, then so does the spring. These are the devices that are absorbing the shock. If it’s a big pothole and you hit it hard enough, the suspension will hit the bump stop and the rubber pad there will also attempt to absorb the shock. If it’s a really big pothole and you hit it sufficiently hard, you might also bend or break the wheel - that’ll help absorb the shock. (But it’s probably not that helpful overall…) The one thing that does not help absorb the shock is a so-called shock absorber (which is really a vibration damper - hence the more correct name: the damper). So-called shock absorbers are really there to smooth out the subsequent unhelpfully bouncy response of the spring - they don’t really do very much primary absorption of shocks. The salient difference between springs and dampers: Springs push back with a force that’s related to their displacement - dumbing this right down: how hard they push is based on how far they’re compressed or how far they’re extended.

Automotive engineering is about the design, manufacturing, and operation of cars, motorcycles, trucks, and other automobiles. Within automotive engineering there are a variety of sub disciplines including safety, performance, vehicle dynamics, fuel economy, cost, manufacturing, and more. For those who want to go into automotive engineering, note that most colleges don't offer it as a major in terms of undergrad. The most common major for people to begin with is actually mechanical engineering. Then after you get your bachelor's you either go into the workforce in the automotive industry, or pursue further education specifically in automotive engineering. While in school you will want to get as much exposure to the field by joining clubs like the society of automotive engineers so you can participate in various competitions. This will give you something to put on your resume and get you that hands on experience that is so valuable for your career. One big area of research at the moment is self driving cars. This is where you'll see much more than just mechanical engineering working on these vehicles. People from all disciplines including electrical engineers, computer engineers, materials engineers, computer scientists, and more are needed for these projects. However, there are more areas of research that are briefly mentioned in the video beyond self driving cars. *************************************************** Forbes Article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2017/06/27/what-will-mechanical-engineers-do-after-most-cars-go-electric/#459db26e6387 *************************************************** ► For more information on math, science, and engineering majors, check us out at https://majorprep.com *************************************************** ► Patreon: https://patreon.com/majorprep ► PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/majorprep ► Facebook: https://facebook.com/majorprep

Today our natural landscapes also boast manmade wonders, icons of engineering and architecture. So what are the world's modern wonders? We've compiled our top seven, from the tallest building on Earth, to the longest underwater tunnel, from aviation's greatest airliner, to engineering's greatest work of art. These are our modern wonders! The great engineering achievements of the modern world are more than purely functional. The visionaries who dreamed up their imposing shapes used art and science to create structures of dramatic beauty. Our bridges, dams, and skyscrapers, dominate our landscapes, as the pyramids dominated those of ancient Egypt. They're testaments to the creative genius of humankind. In this film we tunnel under, climb up, jump off, and fly with, the greatest marvels the modern world has to offer. 2002 documentary for the Travel Channel, including the following subjects : Brooklyn Bridge The Brooklyn Bridge is a bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. It has a main span of 486.3 metres and was the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed. Petronas Towers The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat official definition and ranking, they were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004. The buildings are a landmark of Kuala Lumpur, along with nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower. Concorde Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde is a retired turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner or supersonic transport. First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued commercial flights for 27 years. Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris. It was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Erected in 1889, it was initially criticised by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but has become both a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. Hoover Dam Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Panama Canal The Panama Canal is a 77.1 kilometre ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a key conduit for international maritime trade. There are locks at each end to lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial lake created to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal, 26 metres above sea level. Channel Tunnel The Channel Tunnel is a 50.5 kilometre rail tunnel linking Folkestone, Kent, in the United Kingdom, with Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais, near Calais in northern France, beneath the English Channel at the Strait of Dover. At 37.9 kilometres the tunnel has the longest undersea portion of any tunnel in the world.

Bentley Mulsanne Production. Inside the main assembly hall operate two lines, one for the Mulsanne and one for Continental and Flying Spur models. Here is where every aspect of the car comes together. Wiring looms must be connected - in the case of the Mulsanne it is two miles long and weighs 50 kilos - dashboards must be fitted; engines married; the iconic matrix grill united with the front fenders; wheels attached; windscreens bonded; and seats inserted - all by the 702 Bentley employees who work in main assembly. When all of these elements and more have come together by hand each car is checked by eye for quality against a 500-650 point checklist. Not all checks can take place while the car is stationary, so each undergoes a four-mile drive on a rolling road, and 14 miles on the Cheshire roads around the factory, when specialists listen and feel for sounds and vibrations to ensure the character is absolutely right. To ensure the car is completely water-tight, each car is sprayed with 1,820 litres of water tinted with a trace of UV dye in a process referred to as the "monsoon test", before it is thoroughly checked under UV light. Finally each car is valeted and checked a final time under a light tunnel before it can be signed off for the customer. Bentley's Pyms Lane factory has a rich history of engine production, producing around 26 thousand Merlin Engines between 1938 and 1945. The legacy is continued today as Bentley's position as the world's largest producer of the W12 engine is reinforced by its establishment as the centre of excellence for the Volkswagen Group for all W12 engine production from the end of 2014. The heart of each Bentley is the engine, and each one is handcrafted. Every single component of the 6¾-litre twin-turbo V8 and 6-litre W12 is selected and installed by hand by a small team of dedicated engine technicians. The key internal components are individually chosen to form a matching, balanced set so that the engine runs perfectly smoothly - a skill that takes years to perfect. Once completed, and after a thorough suite of testing, the engine is signed-off by one of Bentley's engine specialists. 3000 bull hides are used every week in Bentley's Leather Workshop. Hides are sourced from Northern Europe, where the temperate climate and lack of barbed wire fencing means the hides are mostly free from the imperfections caused by scratches and biting insects. Nonetheless, each hide is checked and marked by hand and eye before being precision cut. Of the 400 hours it takes to build a Mulsanne, around 150 are dedicated to creating the sumptuous leather interior - before additional options are considered. Stitched, shaped and finished entirely by hand, the completed seats, doors and other leather accoutrements rival the quality of the finest furniture - the contrast stitching alone takes anywhere between 20 and 40 hours to complete. A Bentley craftsperson would be able to correctly identify whether the cross stitching inside a Bentley is their work by the stitching alone - to check you could find their initials etched onto the inside of the upholstery - a mark of accountability and pride that is consistent throughout the build process. Opening the door of the Bentley flagship reveals the indulgent permanence of wood, with the foundation of solid walnut, cherry or oak visibly running through the dashboard and overlaid with a choice of 10 different veneers. The story of this wood does not begin in Crewe, but in every corner of the world where exotic trees grow for up to 200 years before being harvested and replanted - seven for every tree. After the root burl has been steamed and finely sliced into 0.6 mm thick bundles of veneer, Bentley veneer experts travel to wherever it may be to check every inch, a process that takes two days. The final selection process occurs at Crewe, when the veneer is chosen by the craftsperson who will transform it. Only the most highly figured areas of veneer are chosen, before being mirror matched and applied to the substrate - solid wood in the case of the Mulsanne. After sanding to create a smooth surface, each part is lacquered before being cured for 72 hours. When cured, it is sanded and polished again before being fitted to the car. Colour is as individual as the customer who specifies it. If none of the 120 in Bentley's extended palette reflects the personality of the owner, they create their own. Matching paint to a customer's treasured item is a painstaking process, and the application process is no less so. Each car is corrosion proofed before the primer and top coat are applied. The curvature of the body means paint must be applied in different depths to appear even, which is why each one is hand sprayed with colour. Once lacquered, each car is fine-sanded before being polished with lamb's wool for 12 hours to achieve an appearance so reflective it's termed the Bentley Mirror Finish. Subscribe

Get Recruitment Notifications of all private and govt jobs , Mock test details ,Previous year question papers only at Freshersworld.com – the No.1 jobsite for entry level candidates in India. (To register : http://freshersworld.com?src=Youtube ) – This video is all about “Jobs abroad for Freshers - Simple tips to make your dream come true” Working abroad is working away from your homeland. Now a days it has become a fashion to move abroad and work in order to earn money. People move from one country to another in search of job or to settle. Now at least one member from the family is surely seen either preparing to move abroad or has already settled there. Earning in dollars, euro, yen etc. that is in foreign currency and their life style most probably attracts the people and this is the ultimate reason of people going abroad. The advantages of working abroad are given below: · Knowledge of other local customs and ways of doing things · Insight into the workplace dynamics of a different country · Independence in planning your travels, living arrangements and work habits · Foreign language skills (or at a minimum, new dialects of your native language) · A broader awareness of the world and its variety of people and cultures For fresher or experience, if you have the skills similar to the job requirement. It is easy to find job in abroad. Applying for a job in abroad is similar to applying job in local area only few steps added in that path, I would like to discuss the same. How to apply for a job abroad 1) Research the countries you would like to work in. You'll need to find out practical information like what kind of visas and immunizations you'll need to relocate there. You should also get a grasp of the culture and living conditions of the country you choose. Find out what the cost of living is to make sure you get a job that is sufficient to live comfortably. 2) Investigate the different routes to a job abroad. There are many different ways to pursue a job and career abroad which will appeal to different people in different circumstances. There are possibilities for short term work, as well as more permanent positions. 3) Search for international job postings on regular job sites. As well as the specialist sites that deal with finding jobs abroad, you shouldn't neglect the major jobs listing sites and recruitment companies 4) Consider working for a local company that has foreign offices. Many corporations in the India have offices in other countries. There also may be small organizations in your area that are satellite offices for international companies. Working in an organization that has international reach can lead to an assignment in an overseas job. 5) Apply for a visa and/or work permit. Many overseas jobs will not consider you for a position unless you already have a visa or work permit organised. Be sure you understand the requirements for a visa or work permit and know that you will be able to meet them before thinking seriously about applying for a job abroad. The embassy of the country you want to work in will provide information for applying for a Visa.. 6) Make contacts and use your networks. Finding a job abroad can be a difficult prospect. You have to demonstrate not only that you are a good person for the job, but that you can offer something more than the prospective local candidates who will most likely take less time to adapt to the new working environment. Because of this, and the difficulties of breaking into a foreign working culture, it is especially important that you utilize your contacts and networks as much as possible. . 7) Consider the language requirements. The language requirements will vary depending on the type of job you are interested in getting. 8) And last, stress your skills and keep them up to date. Impossible Naval Engineering - Ancient Discoveries (History Documentary) Shot on location in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Ancient Discoveries unearths amazing technologies we think of as modern, but which actually have their origins in antiquity. The series travels back in time to uncover remarkably sosphisticated inventions and to celebrate the ancient engineers whose ingenuity laid the foundations for todays technology. Naval engineering has led the way in technological advances through all History. For the simple reason that if anything goes wrong at sea, you're dead. Relive the most extraordinary Naval ambitions of antiquity. The macabre collapsible death-yacht,commissioned by Roman emperor Nero, as a one- time-only assassination device--designed to kill his own mother. The ship that needed no engine and powered up-river by itself. The underwater booby trap defense system that smashed through pirate hulls in15th century Italy. The chemical bomb fire ships that killed hundreds on the high seas of ancient Greece. And in a high adrenaline investigation, for the first time on television, we build and test the oldest white-water rapids crafts ever discovered.

I have a spicy story to tell and it should motivate you. Since I was a child, I loved 3 things which made me stand out of the crowd: 1. Math, Physics & Logic 2. Self-improvement and Personal Growth 3. Cars So, I decided to study Automotive Engineering in Brasov, Romania. All the courses that I studied were exclusively in English. I started in 2012 and I graduated in 2016. Lots of exams, a lot of stress, lots of projects, a lot to learn. But that's not all. I knew that I could do much more than just getting a degree, so I wanted to do more. I started to read and write books on Amazon, I built several websites, I made over $7,000 while I was a student, I learned even more about cars, and I eventually got to the point where I told myself: "I'm going to use every piece of knowledge that I have to built something epic" And yes, I'm referring to YouTube. I decided in 2016 to use my knowledge and skills to create an epic YouTube channel. Since I graduated, I immediately got a job at a Suzuki Dealership and I worked there for 3 months. It was pretty great, but I got to a point where I learned almost everything that had to be learned. I love being dynamic, so I left Suzuki and I got a new job as a MOT tester in a car shop. I'm not doing just MOT tests, I test drive cars, I diagnose cars, I do brake tests (after brake replacements) and many more. I believe that this was the best job that I could possibly get to gain more knowledge and more skills to use them later in my YouTube channel. And trust me... it's not easy at all. I work from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM from Monday to Friday. Every Saturday and every Sunday I'm filming and editing. When I finish work at my job, I get home and I interact on Quora and Social Media. I write answers, questions, I watch tutorials, and I am doing my best to learn how to improve myself and my YouTube channel. It's not easy. I basically have 0 (zero) free time for myself. I work from Monday to Monday more than 10 hours a day. My last vacation was last summer in August. Since then, work, work, work. A brand, an audience is extremely difficult to build, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals. Getting the degree was the easy part. If you really want to succeed in life, you need to focus on something that you have knowledge about and on something that you also love doing. Then you need to take massive action to make things come true. Whatever it is that you want to do, take massive action on a daily basis, and you will eventually succeed. Don't forget to Subscribe!

CAREERS IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - GATE,Mtech,Campus drives,Salary package,Top recruiters ARE YOU PLANNING TO BECOME AN MECHANICAL ENGINEER , Then This is The Right Video For you Mechanical Engineering is been Explained In The Video and It's Career Oppurtunities What is Mechanical Engineering? Mechanical engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the need to design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices (e.g., microscale sensors and inkjet printer nozzles) to large systems (e.g., spacecraft and machine tools). The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. In order to accomplish this, a broad range of skills are needed. The mechanical engineer needs to acquire particular skills and knowledge. He/she needs to understand the forces and the thermal environment that a product, its parts, or its subsystems will encounter; to design them for functionality, aesthetics, and the ability to withstand the forces and the thermal environment they will be subjected to; and to determine the best way to manufacture them and ensure they will operate without failure. Perhaps the one skill that is the mechanical engineer’s exclusive domain is the ability to analyze and design objects and systems with motion. For those interested in applied scientific and mathematical aspects of the discipline, graduate study in mechanical engineering can lead to a career of research and teaching.
