Why does the best $400 smartphone matter? Well, today's flagship phones are so bombastic and feature-packed, it's easy to forget that many cost upwards of $700. As I was recently reminded when a certain company announced pricing for a certain device I was planning to buy *cough-MotoZ-cough*, that's an awful lot of money. In 2016, you can get a lot of smartphone for less than half that – and the proof has been sitting in MrMobile's studio for several months. Join me as I take today's best $400 Android smartphones for a test drive! From the strange innovation of Alcatel's IDOL 4S to the build quality of ZTE's Axon 7 to the sheer beauty of Huawei's Honor 8, we'll see what each phone brings to the table ... and where each falls short. You may come away with some new additions to your holiday shopping list, or at least a revived appreciation for your $700 flagship. Information Technology | China’s Huawei to Tap Into U.S. Market With New Mate 9 Smartphone Information Technology | Huawei Technologies Co. of China plans to sell its new high-end flagship phone in the U.S.—a first for the world’s third-largest smartphone maker as the company tries to grab a bigger piece of the premium-handset market. On Thursday, Huawei unveiled the Mate 9, its latest flagship smartphone, with a €699 ($776) price tag in Germany. The company said the new phone will initially be sold in 12 countries in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and be available in the U.S. later. The U.S. release date is expected to be in January, a person familiar with the matter said. In the U.S., the Mate 9 will likely be sold online, not through carriers, the person added. The launch of the Mate 9 is part of the Chinese technology company’s effort to sell more high-end devices to take on Samsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc. in the global smartphone market. The new flagship phone comes with Huawei’s own interface software, which uses artificial intelligence to automatically keep applications, photos and videos organized. That feature helps prevent the handset’s speed and performance from slowing, the company said. In April, Huawei launched its high-end P9 smartphone, which features a dual-lens camera. Huawei has set an ambitious goal of becoming the world’s biggest smartphone maker within five years, but it has some catching up to do. It held a 9.3% share of the global smartphone market in the third quarter, behind Samsung’s 20% and Apple’s 13%, according to research firm International Data Corp. As the world’s biggest market for high-end smartphones, the U.S. is crucial for premium-handset makers. But Huawei faces challenges there as its telecommunications-networking equipment has been effectively banned because of security concerns. While Alphabet Inc.’s Google Nexus 6P, manufactured by Huawei, was sold in the U.S. last year, the Chinese company hasn’t released its own flagship model in the U.S. until now. It is an opportune time for the Chinese smartphone vendor: Rival Samsung has been struggling with a global recall of its latest high-end phone, the Galaxy Note 7, after reports that the phones caught fire. Samsung was forced last month to halt shipments of the Note 7 ahead of the peak holiday season.

The iPhone SE has been a tricky phone to classify. Is it an "entry level" device? Is it a "mini-flagship"? How should we draw the lines on the smartphone market map? To see where the iPhone might belong, we're comparing it against two Android devices. The Huawei GX8 is $100 cheaper than the SE. The HTC One A9 is $100 more expensive. How do these devices stack up? Let's take a look. (1 Sep 2016) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4053072 LEAD IN: Chinese electronics company Huawei is launching a new smartphone brand at the IFA electronics show in Berlin. The 'Nova' brand of smartphones and tablets will compete in the mid-range segment and is targeted at younger consumers. STORY-LINE: This is a Nova Plus smartphone, a sleek device aimed at younger consumers. Never heard of 'Nova'? That is because it has just been launched as a sub-brand to Chinese electronics giant Huawei. At the moment the brand contains three devices, a flagship Nova plus smartphone, a standard Nova smartphone and a tablet. The Nova Plus smartphone comes with a 16 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera, 3GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and a 4K 5.5-inch screen. The device is powered by a 3340 mAh battery. The device will cost somewhere between 350 and 450 euros in the European market when it becomes available in October. The smaller Nova comes with a 5-inch screen, a 12 megapixel camera and a 3020 mAh battery. "I find it really interesting because Huawei makes really high-end elegant smartphones. They have been kind of going for this premium market and chasing Apple. And now that they got a little bit of brand equity I think it is interesting that they are moving in to this middle-tier," says Nicole Scott, editor of 'Mobilegeeks' technology website "I honestly thought that 'Honor' which is their online brand, would stay in that mid-range kind of price point. And Huawei would stay high-end. So the fact that Huawei is moving down, with these really well-built phones, is I think really good for the consumer." Huawei has the third largest share of the worldwide smartphone market, after Apple and Samsung, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) - a market research company. Their flagship Mate S and P9 phones are competing in the very high-end of the smartphone market. Scott says that the camera quality of the high-end Huawei phones are likely to trickle down to the mid-range brand. "They are up there chasing Apple and Samsung. So it is not as they are playing the mid-range game when it comes to the cameras," she says. "They are actually playing the premium game when it comes to cameras. So even if a little bit of that trickles in to their mid-range market, I think the consumer will still be winning. And it is difficult to find a phone this well-built in the mid-range." The Nova brand is launched at the IFA Technology fair in Berlin. The fair opens to the public on September 2 and runs through September 7. Huawei has launched the Mate 9, a high-spec, high-price smartphone which could see the China-based company square up to market leaders Apple and Samsung. The latest device in Huawei's Mate series boasts a 5.9 inch full HD screen, inviting comparison with Apple's iPhone 7 Plus and the now discontinued Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The manufacturer is making a big play on the handset's processing power, which Huawei said made it the "most powerful smartphone in the world." According to Huawei's testing, software in the Mate 9 performed 80 percent better than major competitors after one year of use. However, Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics, was not overly impressed by these claims, describing the product as merely "another big screen smartphone." But, Mawston, speaking to CNBC on the phone, did concede that the Mate 9 was a "nice incremental improvement" and that the release did a good job of "filling the Note 7 gap, at a lower price point than Apple." Ben Wood, mobile industry analyst at CCS Insight, viewed the launch more positively, telling CNBC via telephone that it "shows just how ambitious Huawei are," and "reiterates (his organization's) belief that Huawei is emerging as a force to be recognized in the smartphone market." The Mate 9's other key features include an 8 megapixel camera, 64GB memory and 4 microphones that in combination enable directional sound recording. Unlike the Apple's iPhone 7, the Mate 9 has a headphone jack. Huawei did not disclose where the device's battery was manufactured; thereby not ruling out that this could be the same as that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which is now notorious for overheating. But, Huawei did stress that the Mate 9's battery had been tested in house, by the manufacturer of the component and in independent research labs.

TrendForce: Samsung leads global smartphone market, Huawei tops China Market research firm TrendForce has released smartphone market numbers for Q2 2016. As per the report, Huawei was the leading player in China (the world's largest smartphone market) with nearly 21% share. Oppo and vivo came in at second and third spots, with 12.7% and 10.6% share, respectively. Lenovo and Xiaomi rounded up the top five with around 10% market share each. "The combined production volume of Chinese brands in the second quarter reached 139 million units, up 13.8% from the previous quarter," said TrendForce smartphone analyst Avril Wu. "For the second straight quarter, the combined volume from Chinese brands was larger than the combined volume of the two leading international brands, Samsung and Apple. Furthermore, the volume growth rates of respective Chinese brands are expected to be above the global average in the third quarter." Globally, Samsung topped the charts with nearly a quarter of the market share, while Apple came in a distant second with 15.1% share - Samsung shipped 77 million units, while Apple shipped 48 million units. However, compared to the last quarter, the former's share decreased, while the latter's share increased. Huawei, Oppo, and LG rounded up the top five with 9.2%, 5.6%, and 5.4% market share, respectively

2016 is over. And its time to evaluate all of the phones I have tested on my channel during this year. It was a tough choice trying to pick the strongest smartphone of 2016. There were so many good phones this year. The weakest was pretty easy. ↓↓↓↓↓↓ CLICK TO SEE MORE ↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓ And there were a few failures of smartphones to add to the mix as well. 2016 was a very interesting year, and I have High Hopes for 2017! Having a durable cell phone is important for the people who keep their phones longer than a year or two. Its important to get a phone that will last the test of time. ALSO its very important to always use a case and a screen protector on your device. I never recommend using your phone without protection. You might have noticed that I didn't say much about the Galaxy S7 Active. This was intentional as I do not think the S7 Active should be winning any awards. 1) It is exclusive to AT&T, which makes it hard to obtain. AND its 'shatter resistant' screen is just glass covered in plastic. So, im sure its a good phone. But I don't think its a contender for this particular video. --------------------------------------------------------- AWARDS: Most Durable: HTC 10 Honorable Mention: OnePlus 3 Least Durable: NextBit Robin Most Repairable: Google Pixel Honorable Mention: LG V20 Least Repairable: HTC 10 Most Innovative: Xiaomi Mi Mix Lease Innovative: iPhone 7 LG G5: Advertising Fail Note 7: A series of unfortunate events. ------------------------------------------------------------- HTC 10 Durability Video: https://youtu.be/cQ62ixgzhrI HTC 10 Teardown: https://youtu.be/T5uLJJnEHMk Nextbit Robin Durability Test: https://youtu.be/EU6Tv-OfXk0 Google Pixel Durability video: https://youtu.be/18nJ3hjUCTw Google PIxel Teardown: https://youtu.be/0tKNn_w3Yfk iPhone 7 Durability test: https://youtu.be/0vYfAqEyGV0 iPhone 7 Screen Repair: https://youtu.be/hIs6vLdHHKI Mi Mix Durability test: https://youtu.be/_CZj-l9MJmg Mi Mix Teardown: https://youtu.be/m5MkZC1uRZY LG G5 durability test: https://youtu.be/0GQ43cF5TuU LG G5 Teardown: https://youtu.be/SyP_cEpp2Zo Note 7 Durability test: https://youtu.be/571pu66vEBc Note 7 Teardown: https://youtu.be/x3Iz0SPy2Ic Note 7 Explosion video: https://youtu.be/_Cd2WIxKRDk LG V20 Durability video: https://youtu.be/nBlUL-7Dl4U LG V20 Teardown: https://youtu.be/KNgSDmkn96c One Plus 3 Durability test: https://youtu.be/8PZ8W_g6Vvk One Plus 3 Teardown: https://youtu.be/Hh_XgrcQ9oo Awesome Smart Phone Tool Kit: http://amzn.to/1XdJPuA Green Pry tool: http://amzn.to/1Tu57pI Phone opening metal tool: http://amzn.to/1WdOFv0 The camera I used to film this video: http://amzn.to/1IjlaCD The Lens I used for this video: http://amzn.to/1QOXDw2 And this Metabones adapter: http://amzn.to/1R7Ltic *Follow me for updates!* Instagram: http://instagram.com/zacksjerryrig Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1U4bQqv Twitter: https://twitter.com/ZacksJerryRig Snapchat: http://bit.ly/1UAb2Fq GooglePlus: https://bit.ly/1YyKice JerryRigEverything assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred as a result of any of the information contained in this video. A mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps. The smartphone industry is one of the most dynamic marketplaces out there. Till a few years ago it was dominated by Nokia, and companies like LG and Sony were among the key players in the market. Then came Samsung and Apple and within a few years, the two emerged as the strongest players in the smartphone segment. However, while Apple and Samsung still rule the industry there are other key players too, having the potential to upset the party for the two tech giants anytime. Here are the 5 biggest smartphone brands of the world, as per a research by Gartner. Note: The ranking is based on the global sales of smartphones in the first quarter of 2016. Samsung South Korean smartphone giant Samsung continues to rule the smartphone market with 81,186,900 units sold during the first quarter. The company held 23.2% market share, marginally down from 24.1% it held during the same quarter last year. The company extended its lead over Apple during the first quarter. According to Gartner's research director Anshul Gupta, "Samsung's Galaxy S7 series phones and renewed portfolio positioned it as a strong competitor in the smartphone market, and more so in the emerging markets where it has been facing fierce competition from local manufacturers." Apple While Apple managed to retain its second position in the global smartphone market, the company witnessed its first double-digit decline year on year, with iPhone sales down by 14%. Apple's ‘upgrade program’ in the US has helped sweeten its flagship iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models’ prices, driving sales in the company’s largest market. Huawei At no. 3 position is Chinese smartphone maker Huawei. Other than witnessing strong growth in China, Huawei also saw strong smartphone demand in Europe, the Americas and Africa. The company's total sales during the first quarter of 2016 stood at 28,861,000 units, according to Gartner. Huawei’s market share during the quarter stood at 8.3%. Xiaomi At no. 5 is Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi. Just like Huawei and Oppo, Xiaomi too witnessed strong growth in China. The company also experienced good demand for its smartphones in the emerging Asia-Pacific region. The company's total smartphone unit sales during the quarter stood at 15,048,000 units. Its global market share during the year stood at 4.3%. Lenovo Lenovo disappeared from the top five smartphone vendor rankings as well as the top 10 mobile phone vendor list in the first quarter of 2016. "Lenovo had another challenging quarter with its worldwide smartphone sales declining 33%," said Gupta.

삼성 화웨이에 맞소송 고려 Just months after ending its lengthy patent battle with Apple, Samsung Electronics is facing lawsuits from another rival, Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies. Samsung Electronics says it's considering a counter-suit. Our Kim Jung-soo has more on the fight... over rapidly improving technology. Huawei Technologies is suing Samsung Electronics in the U.S and China for copyright infringement. It's seeking compensation for the unlicensed use of 4G technology, operating systems and user interface software. Huawei recently invested 10 billion of its annual 70 billion US-dollar revenue into research and development. Experts see the lawsuit as Huawei's intention to not only protect, but also publicize its state of the art technology. "I think it is safe to say that Huawei thinks of this lawsuit as having a marketing effect as well, just like what happened between Samsung and Apple." According to a September 2015 survey by Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency , Huawei is number one internationally for patent applications that are crucial in the emerging market for 5G generation mobile networks. Huawei leads with 345 patents compared to Samsung's 30. This means when the 5G market opens, there could be even more patent disputes initiated by the Chinese company to reduce competition. In a statement, Huawei said it hopes Samsung will get the necessary license from it and work with the Chinese phone maker. Samsung Electronics is now processing the suits lobbed by Huawei. If Samsung Electronics decides to counter sue, the clash could grow into a full-scale legal battle in the days and weeks to come. Kim Jung-soo, Arirang News. (26 Aug 2016) LEAD IN: Europe's leading consumer electronics fair IFA is nearing and - as in previous years - new smartphones are likely to take centre stage in Berlin. But don't expect any great technological leaps - experts say smartphones may have now reached "peak innovation." STORY-LINE: The annual technology fair IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) is the biggest consumer electronics fair in Europe. Starting September 2, over 240,000 visitors are expected to descend on these exhibitions grounds in Berlin to see new products from over 1,600 exhibitors. Among them are around 6,000 media representatives, many of those travelling to Berlin to see the latest in smartphone and smartwatch designs. At IFA in 2015, Chinese tech maker Huawei released its Huawei Mate S, while Sony showed its new flagship Sony Xperia Z5. This year, Huawei is expected to show at least one new smartphone, Sony is expected to launch the latest addition to its Xperia line. Chinese companies Lenovo and ZTE are also expected to launch their latest smartphones. Expect better screens, better processors and better cameras - but no major innovations which are likely to dramatically change the smartphone market. "I think at the moment we have reached some peak of innovation because there is nothing left that you could do which is really new," says Amir Tamannai, editor of GIGA Android technology news website. "I mean, you can make the smartphones more powerful, which nobody really needs because even looking at a scenario where you need all this hardware power - games - every game now runs on almost every smartphone. "VR is another thing, maybe we need some more power for VR, but that is also something that can be easily done. Displays yes, they can get bigger, they can get more resolution. But then again, there is a biological peak where it doesn't give anymore advantages if you have an even higher resolution." Over the last few years, there's been a boom in the mid-range smartphone market, with Chinese companies like Huawei, Xiaomi and ZTE threatening the established players, such as Samsung, with cheaper devices. The once booming global smartphone market is also slowing. According to a forecast by market research company the International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone sales will increase by 3.1 percent in 2016. That's a steep drop from 10.5 percent growth in 2015 and 27.8 percent growth in 2014. This could also mean less innovation in smartphones, according to Tamannai. "I think that on the one hand you could just simply say the market is saturated, everybody has a smartphone now and they're settling with their smartphone, or their idea of what a smartphone should be," he says. "So they're not really looking for any new innovations or any new products. On the other side, the manufacturers, they don't really know what to do very innovative with their new products. And, also a good thing for consumers but a bad thing for innovation, mid-range and low budget smartphones have become so versatile, so quality-wise good, that there is no need for the real high-end devices anymore." The first iPhone was launched in 2007. Samsung launched its first smartphone, the 'Samsung Instinct', in 2008. In the following years, smartphones made giant technological leaps, year on year. Shu On Kwok, editor of Android Pit technology news website, says a slowdown in innovation is a natural step, something that's also happened to other technologies as markets stabilised. "We are maybe a little bit spoiled in the past with bigger steps, evolutions or we think that was some kind of revolutionising stuff in the smartphones," he says. But at the same time, smartphones are becoming more and more integral in our daily lives.
