Whether you drive an automatic, manual, or dual clutch transmission, occasionally the advice comes up: start in second gear. Why might this be? Perhaps if you're about to start accelerating downhill, perhaps if you're in the snow and you want to minimize wheel slip, or perhaps you've made up your own reason. Whatever you ultimately decide on, this video will break down exactly what's happening with your engine and transmission depending on which gear ratio you choose to select. Banning German cars... really?

Let us formally declare war on human stupidity. Personified in this case by Delawarecop: "John (Anti-Science) Cadogan - said at 9mins: “there is no way to generate hydrogen gas and oxygen gas, from water, on board your car, which results in a meaningful net thermodynamic benefit. "Really John? Read it and weep.... One can place a flexible magnetic Solar panel on the roof of their vehicle in the order of 200W-300W which can be wired to a Spare Deep Cycle Battery ON-BOARD the vehicle. This Battery can then be used to power a HHO Generator that can produce Hydrogen & Oxygen gas (on demand) that can be used in the combustion cycle to offer a MEANINGFUL NET THERMODYNAMIC BENEFIT. "Self Confessed Automotive Engineering / Journalist - proved wrong by his own ill-conceived premature assumptions. Enjoy your free Engineering lesson, Auto Expert..:)" Before we rush out and put this into production, perhaps we should do a quick feasibility study? Just for the sake of due diligence. And just for the record, you don’t need to be an engineer to do this - just a high school kid who paid attention in chemistry class. Why don’t we devote one square metre of the roof to a solar panel - a nice, efficient one - about 20 per cent efficient. And let’s assume it’s always summer in ‘Straya. Incident sunlight is about one kilowatt for every square metre - so we’d get about 200 watts of electricity out of the panel. And let’s assume the car is parked for eight hours a day in that state - and the solar panel never gets stolen. Bear in mind we’re already in Looney Tunes territory here, but because I’m abjectly generous to a fault, as I’m sure you’d agree, let’s suspend disbelief and presume for the sake of argument we can do this for 400 days every year. That’s right - I’ll throw in another month and change - free. Because Delaware Cop is a solid, return customer to the house of nuts. 200 watts for eight hours is 1.6 kilowatt-hours … times 400 days every year equals 640 kilowatt hours every year. That’s a fair bit of energy. And let’s give the brain dead another free kick: 100 per cent charging efficiency of the battery, as well as 100 per cent efficiency of the electrolyser. This is makes Uncle Fester look like the next Nobel Prize Laureate for Physics - it’s that generous. But at the end of this impossibly perfect year you’ll have generated the equivalent of about 70 litres of gasoline in hydrogen energy - if you burn it back to water inside the engine. That’s about $100 worth of gasoline. This is a crazy-generous analysis. Eight hours a day of bright summer sunlight for 400 days a year, and no losses in charging or electrolysing. But, hey, let’s run with it. The solar panel is going to cost you about $650. And you’ll need at least 150 amp-hours of 12-volt deep cycle batteries - that’s about $200 and about 30 kilos of additional weight. Assuming they’re gel batteries. And assuming the driving component is an hour a day, you’ll need to be feeding your 100 per cent efficient electrolyser about 150 amps so that it can make about 750 litres of gas an hour - that’s about 500 litres of hydrogen gas and 250 litres of oxygen. Per hour. That’s a lot of electrical energy - and a lot of highly flammable gas. I think this is the part where we I’m supposed to say ‘never attempt this at home, kids’. I mean: what could possibly go wrong? But if we just assume we get our 400 days every year comprising eight hours of bright Shitsvillian summer sun, and everything - except the PV array - does the mad conversion voodoo at 100 per cent efficiency … then I guess all that’s left is to calculate the return on investment. So $650 for the panel, and $200 for the batteries, $300 for the best damn DIY electrolyser money (or is that ‘monkey’?) can buy, another $300 for cables and hardware… I mean those batteries are not going to mount themselves, right? that’s an initial investment of about $1450 - to save the equivalent of $100 per year in gasoline. That’s … ahhhh … breaking even in about 17 years. (Because the batteries only last about 2000 cycles - so you’d need to replace them about every seven years.) I guess everyone’s definition of ‘meaningful thermodynamic benefit’ is different.

Japanese engineers unveiled on Wednesday (April 25) a robot that transforms into a car that can actually carry people on board, in what they said was the first-ever such accomplishment in the history of robots. The 3.7-metre (12.1-feet)-tall two-seater robot "J-deite RIDE" can transform into a sportscar in a process that takes about a minute. It can technically walk at 30 km/h (18.6 mph) or run on its four wheels but developers said they've never really tested it outside the factory cargo bay area. CEO of Brave Robotics, Kenji Ishida, who initiated the co-project with Asratec, an affiliate of the Japanese mobile phone giant SoftBank, and a roller coaster manufacturer Sansei Technologies, said he was motivated by his childhood transformer heroes in anime movies. While admitting that it may seem like an expensive toy, Ishida said the robot is an attempt to inspire others and broaden the human imagination. Developers said they will begin with utilizing the technology in entertainment industry, such as amusement park and street parades.

What are the advantages of different kinds of car batteries? Flooded Lead Acid vs AGM - Sponsored By Optima Batteries Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 To learn more about OPTIMA Batteries: https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/support/battery-basics/redtop-vs-yellowtop-vs-bluetop-battery Find an OPTIMA Battery for your vehicle: https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/product-finder There are three major forms of lead-acid batteries used in cars which will be discussed in this video: Flooded Lead Acid, Spiral Cell Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM), and Flat Plate AGM. Flooded lead acid batteries are the most common lead-acid battery found in OEM applications. They offer a cost-effective solution, however they can require more maintenance, and must be mounted upright to avoid spills. Spiral Cell & Flat Plate Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries offer unique advantages over traditional flooded lead acid style batteries. They are maintenance free, and because they use 99.99% pure lead, they offer better cold cranking amps and deep cycling characteristics. They are also more flexible for mounting, as the absorbed glass mat medium prevents acid from spilling. Don't forget to check out my other pages below!
