Samsung Galaxy S 4 Challenge, Day 6: Battery life and storage

05:19
Samsung Galaxy S 4 Challenge, Day 6: Battery life and storage For this video update to the challenge, I'm talking about battery life, 4G LTE connectivity on AT&T, and the fact that you only get 9.62 GB of available space on the 16 GB Galaxy S 4. Every time I use an international device (read: non-LTE), I find myself missing the insanely fast speeds that LTE networks often produce. Sure enough, after being back on an AT&T-branded device, I'm cruising happy with download speeds between 20-40 Mbps, depending on where I'm at in Dallas. So far, I've seen a little bit more lag on the unit than I'd like to admit, though right now, I'm chalking it up to the pictures, music, and the like that I transferred over to the device. Speaking of content, I'm a bit disappointed that the phone only has 9.62 GB of available storage space on it out of the box. I'm no storage hog (I typically buy the 16 GB variant of any smartphone), but with 1.5 GB of space left, I'm beginning to sweat. The surprise for me has been battery life. Coming from the Note II, I expected battery life to be sub-par, both because of my expectations and the fact that Galaxy S 4 has a 1080p HD display. I've been pleasantly surprised. Good battery life is one of my top three requirements when I carry a smartphone, and the Galaxy S 4 delivers. What do you want to see in the challenge series? Let me know @PhoneDog_Aaron! AAs are still the most widely sold battery type, used in many toys, radios, flashlights, and remote controls, and in some digital cameras, though more of those are using tiny rechargeables. We tested nonrechargeable lithium, nickel oxhydroxide, and alkaline types.

Understanding how Lithium-ion batteries fail

02:32
What happens when lithium-ion batteries overheat and explode has been imaged inside and out for the first time by a team led by UCL PhD student Donal Finegan (UCL Chemical Engineering) and Dr Paul Shearing (UCL Chemical Engineering). Understanding how Li-ion batteries fail and potentially cause a dangerous chain reaction of events is important for improving their design to make them safer to use and transport. Hundreds of millions of these rechargeable batteries are manufactured and transported each year as they are integral to modern living, powering mobile phones, laptops, cars and planes. Although battery failure is rare, earlier this year, three airlines announced they will no longer carry bulk shipments of lithium-ion batteries in their cargo planes after the US Federal Aviation Administration tests found overheating batteries could cause major fires. About UCL (University College London) Founded in 1826, UCL was the first English university established after Oxford and Cambridge, the first to admit students regardless of race, class, religion or gender, and the first to provide systematic teaching of law, architecture and medicine. We are among the world's top universities, as reflected by performance in a range of international rankings and tables. UCL currently has over 35,000 students from 150 countries and more than 11,000 staff.

Both the Beats Studio3 and Beats Solo3 are solid headphones and we know it can be hard to decide between the two so we decided to do this Beats Solo3 vs Beats Studio3 Wireless review. Both headphones offer incredible Bluetooth range and stability thanks to Apple's W1 chip. The W1 chip also allows for seamless integration with iOS and iCloud. But in terms of comfort, we give the edge to the Studio3. The Studio3 Bluetooth headphones also offer better noise cancellation with their Adaptive Noise Cancelling Technology. Finally, the Studio 3 wireless headphones also offer better audio quality than the Solo3s. On the other hand, the Beats Solo 3 Bluetooth headphones are cheaper and we see more deals on them. Next, the Solo3 wireless headphones offer better battery life at up to 48 hours on a single charge, which is pretty amazing. Lastly, the Solo3s are a little lighter and thus better for the gym than the Studio3. At the end of the day though, both of these headphones are awesome. Both of these headphones might land on the list for Best Wireless Headphones 2018 or Best Wireless On-Ear Headphones 2018. HTC One Challenge, Day 24: Battery

04:36
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings If my Twitter feed is any indication, you've been wanting to hear about the battery, and that's what I'm talking about in day 24 of the HTC One Challenge. It's a 2,300 mAh non-removable battery, meaning you can't take it out of the device and replace it with another one. Many consider this to be a point of contention, but I don't see it as a problem - there are a number of external charging solutions out there (HTC actually makes one in non-US markets). Overall, I'm getting about 10-12 hours with moderate to heavy use. Battery life varies depending on the person, and you have to keep it in perspective. If you're coming from a Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX (HD) or Samsung Galaxy Note II, battery life will be a bit different. For most, this is an incredibly capable battery. LG Optimus G Pro Challenge, Day 12: Your questions answered!

06:10
LG Optimus G Pro Challenge, Day 12: Your questions answered! I'm on day 12 with the LG Optimus G Pro, and I'm finding a lot of things I love about this smartphone. The exclusive availability on AT&T is a bummer, because this phone could do incredibly well on multiple carriers. The display is fantastic (1080p and IPS go well together), the phone is exceptionally fast, and battery life is great. Otherwise, I'm answering YOUR questions! Questions for this round included battery life numbers, comparisons to the Galaxy Note II, and more. What do you want to see in the update? Let me know on Twitter @PhoneDog_Aaron! Is iPhone 6 or 6 Plus most likely to take #1 spot?

04:07
in this week's look at PhoneDog's Official Smartphone Rankings, Cam ponders which iPhone is most likely to make it to #1. Is the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus the biggest threat to the HTC One's reign as the champion of our People's Choice chart? Will experts laud the huge display and battery life of the Plus, or wax lyrical about the smaller, more palm-friendly model? What do you think? Are either iPhones a match for the One (M8), or is there still not enough to impress you from Apple? Samsung Galaxy Note II Challenge: Day 1

04:47
VOTE NOW for your favorite phone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings My last 30 day challenge centered around the Samsung Galaxy S III, and since the conclusion of that challenge just under four months ago, I've carried it as my personal device (albeit in a few different colors). The Galaxy S III answered nearly every problem I had with Android prior to that date - overall fluidity is fantastic, the OS is user-friendly, and the specifications are fantastic. For the first time in recent memory, I've had no desire to switch phones; a testament to the fact that it offers a lot out of the box. With a 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording, a giant 3,100 mAh battery, and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with TouchWiz, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is, in essence, the Galaxy S III on steroids. The size will be something to overcome (yet again), but the prospect of better battery life, quad-core processing, and 4G LTE (when the US version comes) is something to be excited about. Has Samsung improved S Pen functionality? Does Jelly Bean and Project Butter mingle with TouchWiz as well as Ice Cream Sandwich did? Stay tuned! Samsung Galaxy Note II Challenge: Day 4

04:10
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings Aaron's back with day four of the Samsung Galaxy Note II Challenge. The most impressive feature thus far? Battery life. The 3,100 mAh battery, combined with HSPA+ connectivity (as the international version doesn't offer 4G LTE in the States), does an exceptional job. With moderate use, the device lasts between 18 and 26 hours, making it absolutely fantastic for a long work day or business travel. The display is beautiful, and the device is taller and narrower, making it a bit easier to hold in the hand. What would you like to see during the challenge period? Leave your comments below! Samsung Galaxy Nexus Challenge: Conclusion

03:31
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone! http://www.phonedog.com/rankings The Samsung Galaxy Nexus Challenge has come to a close, and despite loving the 4.65-inch HD display, stock Ice Cream Sandwich interface, and overall form factor, I couldn't shake the issues with the wireless radio and battery life problems. If I stayed on the LTE network throughout the day, I was charging the 1,850 mAh battery 2-3 times. Needless to say, that's unacceptable. Additionally, the wireless radio seemed to struggle in areas where other Verizon phones didn't. It's a great phone if you're into media, but those that need a device for calls and overall longevity will want to consider another option. Stay tuned for more phone challenges on the site! Consumer reports ranks the iphone x behind the iphone 8 and galaxy s7 | Tech News

03:04
Consumer reports ranks the iphone x behind the iphone 8 and galaxy s7 | Tech News The iPhone X is Apple’s best phone ever, and one of the best handsets of the year. But that doesn’t mean it ranks higher than the more boring iPhone 8 models or some of its most prominent rivals. Consumer Reports released its full iPhone X test results, revealing the reasons why it thinks the iPhone 8 handsets and Samsung’s best 2017 phones are better positioned in its smartphone rankings. A few weeks ago, the same organization concluded that the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 can’t rank higher than the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Samsung took the first three spots, with the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, and S7, while the Note 8 only came in sixth. The iPhone X, meanwhile, can’t even beat its siblings, Consumer Reports concluded, and that’s not because it’s not a better phone. But the iPhone X breaks even more easily than the iPhone 8 models, and battery life can’t measure up to the iPhone 8 Plus The iPhone X does have a beautiful display and outstanding cameras, which trump the iPhone 8 models. Face ID also works just as advertised, the testers found, even if it does take a while to learn all the new gestures that result from Apple’s decision to kill the physical home button. But the iPhone miserably failed the drop tests, and durability may be a big deal for a phone that’s very expensive to repair. When it comes to battery life, the iPhone X lasts some 30 minutes more than the iPhone 8’s 19 hours of use, while the iPhone 8 Plus scored 21 hours in the same tests. Consumer Reports says that the iPhone X’s battery is still shorter than the majority of the 38 smartphones it recommends. It’s battery life that hurt the iPhone X’s overall score the most. Even if the iPhone X scored lower than the Galaxy Note 8 in Consumer Reports’ rankings, that doesn’t make it a worse phone than Samsung’s flagships A lot of people would argue that the iPhone X represents the future of smartphones. It boasts the best overall camera results in CR’s testing and one of the best displays we’ve ever seen on a phone. And while you don’t get the familiar Home button, you pick up a decent amount of screen space in a phone that’s significantly smaller than the 7 Plus and 8 Plus. It’s easier to hold and use, not to mention lighter to carry. And Face ID works very effectively. The phone seems to unlock as soon as you pick it up and even think about making a call. Its gesture system takes some getting used to, but it’s not overly cumbersome or difficult to use. Just make sure you buy prote...

MP3 Players - Rankings Of Best

03:37
MP3 Players - Find out how reviewauthority.com evaluates the best MP3 Players. The latest rankings of the best MP3 Players can be seen at: http://mp3-players.reviewauthority.com/rankings-of-best-mp3-players http://www.reviewauthority.com At Review Authority, we evaluate and rank products and services in a variety of categories. Our evaluations of technology are aimed to help consumers find the best products for their personal experience based on both our expert understanding of technology and the expectations of our visitors and consumers when purchasing a MP3 player. Our evaluations cover numerous aspects of MP3 players which are evaluated by our certified evaluators. Our evaluators for technology are enthusiasts and audiophiles who are passionate about technology and audio and are professionals who have used various sound technologies during the professional careers. For MP3 players, our evaluators evaluate a number of different aspects which we believe to be critical of a quality portable MP3 player. Consumers use MP3 players to listen to their favorite music on the go on a variety of platforms and from a variety of services. We understand the need to have a quality product which works with the most popular sound formats and services available. We also understand that not all users are looking for the same type of MP3 player. Our goal is to highlight the best which provide a strong audio experience. Not all products which we evaluate will make the cut, but the ones that do can be found on our monthly rankings. The five main criteria which we use to evaluate MP3 players are as follows: Our evaluators judge the overall audio quality when connecting the MP3 player to a variety of sound outputs ranging from headphones to speaker systems. Audio quality is evaluated based on the quality of the sound when compared to the sound offerings by other MP3 players being evaluated. The storage capacity of the MP3 player is also evaluated depending on the price to the consumer and the amount of storage which is available. Our evaluators test to ensure that the amount of space being advertised is close to the amount of space being achieved by the manufacturer. Compatibility with various types of sound formats and services is another important aspect of our evaluation. Having the ability to connect the MP3 player with different services or different applications to sync music is an important aspect of our evaluation to ensure that consumers are able to play their music on the device. We also test to make sure that older and newer sound formats are supported on the MP3 player to ensure that their downloaded library will be compatible. Ease of use is evaluated through the ability for a new user to utilize various features and functions of the MP3 player without having to contact support for assistance. Our evaluators test the graphical user interface and the various menu options to ensure that the device is easy to use for their target audience. Battery life for an MP3 player is another critical aspect of our evaluation. While some MP3 players utilize an integrated rechargeable battery, others require the use of batteries being added into the device to power it. Our evaluators test both types and compare the battery lives in both scenarios to their competition to understand energy usage and efficiency. Once our certified evaluators and team have done their due diligence, we combine this information and create our monthly rankings. These rankings are our opinions of which MP3 players provide the best audio experience.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Challenge: Day 1

04:13
The popular challenge series is back! This time around, I'm taking 14 days to get to know Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I've always liked the design of the Nexus and really like the aesthetic improvements in Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). But the battery life could be the worst out of any 4G LTE Android device I've worked with in recent memory. Seriously, it's terrible. I've charged the device twice today, and am considering forcing it onto 3G just so I can make it through a day with moderate to heavy use. I've seen some signal strength issues that are a cause for concern, but I'll continue to evaluate those as the challenge goes on. Stay tuned! Samsung Galaxy Axiom Unboxing

06:47
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings We're talking Galaxy again, but this time around, it's the Samsung Galaxy Axiom on US Cellular. Similar to the Galaxy Stellar on Verizon, it brings the exterior design theme of the Galaxy S III to a mid-range device. It's available now at US Cellular, and is Samsung's mid-range offering behind the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III. It's a nice little smartphone for the money, and I like the fact that they brought the Galaxy S III Mini look and feel to the Galaxy Axiom. The 2,100 mAh battery is the same size as the one in the Galaxy S III, so I expect battery life to be very good. Stay tuned for the full review! HTC One Challenge: Day 1

03:25
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings The HTC One represents a great step forward for the company. It has fantastic build quality, the specifications are great, and the availability on multiple US carriers (soon) is a BIG bonus. This one deserves a 30 day challenge to really dive into the nitty gritty of the new features - HTC Zoe, BlinkFeed, and HTC Sense 5, just to name a select few. I'll be investigating all of those features, but of equal importance, I'm going to see how the smartphone holds up after coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note II. I'm used to exceptional battery life and the value-added tweaks that Samsung has added to TouchWiz. Does the HTC One compete in both regards? Stay tuned, and in the meantime, let me know what you'd like to see! Tweet me @PhoneDog_Aaron with your thoughts. HTC One X+ Challenge: Day 1

06:25
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings For the past few months, I've been carrying the Samsung Galaxy Note II. It's a big device, but I love the battery life and features - not to mention the latest version of TouchWiz, Samsung's user interface. I find that it brings some fantastic software additions to Android. The HTC One X+ is HTC's update to the One X, and it brings some nice features to the table, including a 1.7 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 CPU, 4.7-inch HD (720p) display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording, 64 GB of internal storage, 4G LTE, and a 2,100 mAh battery. The downside? Unlike the DROID DNA, it only offers 1 GB of RAM. Given how much of a resource hog Sense UI can be, it could be an issue. I'll spend quite a bit of time in this 30 day challenge analyzing some of the differences between TouchWiz and Sense at length, in addition to hardware differences. If you're looking at Android, you're probably considering Samsung and HTC, as they're the current industry heavyweights. I hope you'll join me for the ride! Nokia Lumia 900 Challenge: Day 16

VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone: http://www.phonedog.com/rankings 16 days in, and for the most part, I'm still enjoying the Nokia Lumia 900. Reception and battery life continue to be good, and the phone can definitely take a beating thanks to the polycarbonate shell. But I've found the "multitasking" features to be pretty useless. All too often, I'll be composing a text message, and have to stop to check a calendar event or something of that nature. When I come back to the message, the text in the box is gone - or so it seems. You CAN return to it by hitting the back button several times, though I find that to be counterintuitive, particularly for those of us that are constantly flipping back and forth between things. Laptop Computers - Rankings Of Best

Laptop Computers - Find out how reviewauthority.com evaluates the best Laptop Computers. The latest rankings of the best Laptop Computers can be seen at: http://laptop-computers.reviewauthority.com/rankings-of-best-laptop-computers http://www.reviewauthority.com At Review Authority, we evaluate and rank products and services in a variety of categories. Our evaluations of technology are aimed to help consumers find the best products for their personal experience based on both our expert understanding of technology and the expectations of our visitors and consumers when purchasing a laptop computer. We understand the necessity to utilize quality products which are reliable. Our evaluations cover numerous aspects of laptop computers which are evaluated by our certified evaluators. Our evaluators for technology are enthusiasts who are passionate about technology and are professionals who have used various technologies during their professional careers. For laptop computers, our evaluation focuses on many of the important aspects of a laptop computer for the average computer user and those who look for an overall great package for their mobile computing experience. Laptop computers differ from other devices since they are mobile, and therefore need to be built sturdily. We understand that not all users are looking for the same type of laptop and our goal is to highlight the best which provide the best overall experience for consumers. Not all products which we evaluate will make the cut, but the ones that do can be found on our monthly rankings. The five main criteria which we use to evaluate desktop computers are as follows: The overall performance of the machine is measured in multiple ways ranging from the hardware aspects to manufacturer settings. The performance of the CPU and GPU are two important aspects which we review in hardware performance which also involve the speed of the memory and the hard drive capacity and speed. Performance of the software includes power options which can limit performance while the laptop is on battery to preserve battery life, various mobile technologies which are used to improve mobile performance, and even performance of the wireless technology used for internet connectivity. The available battery life is also an important aspect of our evaluation. We evaluate the quality of the batteries which are available as a standard package or a custom solution, the power options which offer a range of performances and battery life when on the go and the average number of charges the battery is equipped to handle for optimal life performance. We also evaluate the warranty service offered with a laptop computer. Standard manufacturer warranties are usually not enough for a laptop computer due to the number of issues that could arise from normal usage. We evaluate the additional warranty options which are available, the quality of both standard and additional warranties, and third-party options which exist for the computer. Technical support is also evaluated as a part of our laptop computer evaluation. We evaluate the quality of the technical support and the support options which are available to the consumer. Having a dedicated technical support team available to handle many of the common problems which can plague a laptop's performance is a key part of the experience. Mobility is our fifth important aspect of the evaluation process. How well is the laptop able to be carried, moved around, and even used on the go? Important aspects include the overall quality of the built-in keyboard, the mouse peripheral, and the ability to expand the use of the laptop through various USB and other devices. We also evaluate the feel of the machine to ensure that it is built strong enough to withstand being carried. Once our certified evaluators and research team have done their due diligence, we combine this information and create our monthly rankings. These rankings are our opinions of which laptop computers provide the best mobile experience.

Samsung Galaxy S III Challenge: Day 24

06:39
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone at http://www.phonedog.com/rankings The 30-day Samsung Galaxy S III challenge is getting close to being over, and everything continues to be good. I've really enjoyed the battery life on the phone (that big 2,100 mAh battery is a nice one), and the HD display is fantastic. I've had a slight bit of lag here and there, but overall, the US Galaxy S III continues to be my favorite Android smartphone. It offers an excellent blend of performance and software features, making it the flagship 'droid for the mainstream consumer (which continues to be a very important demographic). Will Galaxy S III outlive the 30-day challenge? Stay tuned! LG Lucid vs. LG Viper Dogfight Part 2

10:00
VOTE NOW for your favorite smartphone: http://www.phonedog.com/rankings It's time for a Dogfight, folks. Sprint just lit up its LTE network in 15 cities which means that all of their LTE phones are, well, actually LTE phones now. One of those such phones is the LG Viper, very similarly priced compared to the LG Lucid on Verizon. Both of these phones feature a 4-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera, and a dual-core processor - all for under a hundred bucks. So, which one is better? Which one should you purchase and which one should you pass on? Well, those questions will be answered in this Dogfight as Sydney compares both phones and their features and performance to see which one comes out on top. In Part 2 of this Dogfight, Sydney takes a look at the processor performance, camera, and battery life. They both actually have the same specs in each of those categories so it's hard to pick a winner, but what will probably make a difference in the end is the price and whether you have Verizon LTE coverage or Sprint LTE coverage in your area.
