Here are 10 cool facts about US passports. When embarking upon international travel, a plane ticket will only get you so far. The real powerhouse behind the journey is the passport, as without one the chances of setting foot on foreign soil are pretty slim. Here are 10 cool facts about those issued here in the US. Number 10. They’re not all the same. There are 3 kinds – tourist, official, and diplomatic. Most have the blue standard issue travel ones, while government employees many of whom are with the military, carry the ‘official’ maroon version. Black ones are given exclusively to the nation’s diplomatic corps. Number 9. New Jersey wins. The state has the highest relative number of passport holders in the nation. Over 50% of its population is cleared and ready for international travel. Number 8. Most Americans don’t have one. Over 60% of the nation’s citizens are currently without the required documentation for travel abroad. Among those who participated in a 2013 travel-related poll, approximately half admitted that they’ve never been beyond the US borders. Number 7. The maximum is 96 pages. A world traveler from New Jersey learned that after reaching – and filling - the 2 24-page insert limit. Upon doing so he had no choice but to order up a new one and start the stamp collecting all over again. Number 6. Mississippi has the smallest percentage of holders. Less than 1 in 5 of its residents has a passport. Number 5. They were once given on a per group basis. The overwhelming majority of the applicants were men. In cases where they indicated that their wives, children or servants would be accompanying them, those names would just be added to the primary holder’s document. Number 4. It’s a nearly all-access pass. US passports allow visa-free entry into 172 countries and territories, which is enough to land the country in second place alongside Denmark, Luxembourg, and Germany. The top spot is a tie between the UK, Finland, and Sweden. Number 3. Presidents get to keep their special ones forever. Even though their tenure in office is limited the amount of time they get to flash a black, diplomatic passport is not. Number 2. The Iroquois have their own. In the name of self-governance the Onondaga Nation has been issuing the documents since 1977. A 2010 dispute about their validity resulted in a 1.5 million dollar overhaul to address security and potential forgery concerns, but it remains unclear whether their passports are cleared for international travel. Number 1. People have always disliked their passport photos. Once the imaging means became widely available, pictures replaced descriptions as a way to verify identity. People were slow to warm up to that change, complaining that the photos resembled mug shots. Further, wearing hats and fancy clothes was not permitted during their taking. What do you think is the coolest thing about US passports?

Wondering what's the difference between a passport book and a passport card? Passport Book -Booklet style ID travel document -Standard passport book has 28 pages. Of the 28 pages, ONLY 17 pages are available for visas and entry/exit stamps -Want more pages? Go for the the 52 pages passport. The XL passport comes with extra pages at NO additional cost -Used for international travel to all destinations by air, land or sea -Can be used to acquire visas -Proof of your identity and U.S. citizenship -Cost more than the passport card Passport Card -Limited use passport -Size of a drivers license -Since 2008, has been a convenient alternative for U.S. citizens to prove their identity and citizenship -Comes equipped with microchip that assigns a distinct number to it's owner -Less expensive than the Passport card -Fits into your wallet -Can be used for land or sea travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean -For children and non drivers this is an excellent form of official identification -However, cannot be used for international travel -Cannot be used to acquire visas -If for some reason while your on a cruise and you need to disembark unexpectedly and need to fly home from a foreign port only having a U.S. passport card will cause some delays in you getting home. Whether you get the passport book/card both are valid for 10 years. Enhanced Drivers License Many people may not know but depending on the state that you live in a third option is available to you. -U.S. citizens who are residents in the states of Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont and Washington are able to obtain a Enhanced Drivers License. -This is a drivers license with few perks -Similar to the passport card -Accepted ONLY at land and sea border crossings. -Not for air travel -Also, contains radio frequency micro-chipping that uniquely identifies you in Customs and Border Protection databases. This promotes faster secure crossing. Choose what's best for you, based on your budget, travel destinations and mode of travel. Music: bensound.com

“I already have a passport, do I need a passport card for when I travel? What is it?” ERRATA: Oops, I stated around the 2:35 mark that your passport and a passport card use your same number - That is not correct. Both use biometrics etc. but they actually have two different numbers for you, one for passport and one for your passport card. However you CAN and SHOULD apply for both on the same form as I stated. How to travel in foreign countries that require you to have your passport on your person at all times: When you apply for a U.S. Passport (book), apply and pay for a $55.00 U.S. Passport card (Passcard) at the same time. You are allowed to have both at the same time. The U.S. Passport card uses a RFID chip, but cannot by itself be used to fly into/out of the USA. It CAN be used for Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda since 9-11. The card is laminated, and the size of your credit card and driver’s license, making it easier to keep on your person at all times overseas, and is a bit more convincing than a photocopy or a photo of your passport on your smartphone. Those are two other methods you can use to keep from being forced to carry your passport on your person at all times overseas. Since it is laminated it can also hold up better to the rigors of daily travel in humid environments, sweat, and water damage. I still suggest you take a snapshot of your passport before travels as well as sending a copy to a loved one back home for safekeeping. Some clarification is in order: You may be required to have your passport book (with pages) and valid Visa on you at all times. Even in those situations, having a passport card might be a wise choice to secure back in your hotel. See https://youtu.be/ZfsGv-9KBDs for more. But should you apply for or renew your passport now, or wait for the latest updated passports coming out late 2017/early 2018? https://www.gninsurance.com/blog/news-and-helpful-links/new-us-passport-design-coming/ Read more at https://www.gninsurance.com/blog/news-and-helpful-links/passport-card/ You can learn more at: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/information/card.html If you already have a valid passport, you can apply for a passport card via the mail using Form DS-82. If you do not already have a passport, apply using the Form DS-11 here: https://www.state.gov/documents/organization/212239.pdf On the top of page 5, you will clearly see checkboxes where you will be requesting a U.S. Passport, a U.S. Passport Card OR: Both (just like in the image we posted on this video). Make sure you include payment for both the Passport and Passport card when submitting your application. UPDATE: U. S. Passports Changes Are Coming in 2018 At this moment all states that are non-compliant with The Real ID Act had an extension that expired on October 10, 2017. All these states with an extension have been given a grace period until January 22, 2018. All non-compliant states are currently under review for possible extension (with the added exception of Virginia, whose extension is now valid until October 10, 2018). At this point no can say what states are at risk until the review of states' extensions has been completed. You may have thought you don't need a passport because you don't travel outside the United States. But for residents of some states, this may change, pending the above info, for any commercial flight, whether international or domestic. To get past TSA security checkpoints, another form of identification may be required: passport, permanent resident card/green card or a military ID. The Real ID Act of 2005 insists that state-issued IDs meet the minimum security standards now set by the federal government. The following states do not yet: •Kentucky •Maine •Missouri •Montana •Oklahoma •Pennsylvania •South Carolina •Washington Whatever the outcome, it is time to start planning now and look into getting your passport. credit: https://www.forbes.com/sites/lealane/2017/09/30/new-rule-residents-in-nine-states-will-need-passports-for-domestic-flights-in-2018/#6b3f02286e59 You can renew online! Eventually... The passport renewal process is getting an overhaul: Starting mid-2018, a new platform will let you renew your passport online, says Carl Siegmund, community relations officer for passport services at the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs. This could mean the end of those late-night trips to Walgreens photo booths to rush off your application the next morning Status updates will come by text If you want to check how far along your passport is in the application or renewal process, you have to pull the update from the State Department's website—a time-consuming process, and not an easy one if you're on the road, say, and on a mobile device. (You could also phone the passport services center to check the status, but you wouldn't be alone—1.4 million calls were received in 2016 alone.) In 2018, this will change: According to Siegmund, status updates will come via email or SMS to keep applicants up to date on applications. Passports could take longer to process As previously reported by Traveler, a rush of passport applications are expected to hit the system—and clog it up—come January. Though routine passport applications typically take 4-6 weeks, expect your application to take closer to six weeks if you decide to wait until the new year to renew. There's good news, though... There are options for procrastinators In addition to the option to apply by mail, this winter, the U.S. government started holding special passport fairs to help some applicants—generally, children and first-timers—avoid the rush. credit: https://www.cntraveler.com/story/us-passport-changes-are-coming-in-2018 The REAL ID Act establishes minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes driver’s licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards. The purposes covered by the Act are: accessing Federal facilities, entering nuclear power plants, and, boarding federally regulated commercial aircraft. credit: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id

Do I need a passport to travel inside the United States? | Scarlatelli, P.A. | The Immigration Law Firm | Immigration Solutions That Work For You. | Donna Scarlatelli | http://greencards4u.com/ | Contact us today at: 941-917-0066 | 777 S. Palm Ave., Suite 5, Sarasota, Florida, 34236 | 73 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York, 12601 | firstname.lastname@example.org No, you don't need a passport to travel inside the United States. If you are foreign national, essentially when you are going to travel domestically and you are talking about traveling by air, then you need to have some sort of government issued photo ID. You could use your local driver's license, your state issued driver's license, or ID card. If you don't have a U.S. issued government ID of any sort, photo ID, then you can use your foreign passport as your government issued ID in order to get on a plane inside the United States. They do not look at whether you are here legally or not. They're only concerned about who is getting on the plane, not what their legal immigration status is so, you would hold your passport open to the identification page and not the visa page.

You have to be a US citizen to complete this process. This tutorial is also only for those who have not held a passport previously. Step # 1 -- Navigating to the Application Site You are first going to need to visit the government page here http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html . Scroll down the page and click the "Complete online and print" option. On the page that loads check the box and then click "Submit". Step # 2 -- Filling in your Information A new page will load with four option, you need to make sure that the first one is selected and then click "Submit". A form called "About the Applicant" will load, fill this out with your personal information. Click "Next" when you have filled this out. On the next page you need to enter your contact information. When done, click "Next". Step # 3 -- Filling in More Information You will then be prompted to fill out any travel plans if you have them, you can just leave this bit blank if you want and click "Next". You now need to enter someone who will be your emergency contact, click "Next" when you have done this. You will then be asked if you have had a passport before, as this tutorial is for first time applicants you will be selecting "None" then click "Next". On the next page you are required to fill in information about your parents and spouse (if you have one). When done click "Next". Step # 4 -- Reading the Additional Information Enter other names if you have had them then click "Next". Review the application and then click "Next" again. On the next page select the "Passport book" option, then click next at the bottom. You will now be on a page which gives you further information about what you need to complete the application. As you can see in step 2 you need to appear at an "Acceptance facility" or "passport agency", where you will need to submit the form after you print it. You can also see the four items you need to take with you along with the form, make sure these are all in order before you go to the passport agency. Step # 5 -- Completing the Online Process Check the acceptance box at the bottom and then click "Create form". A PDF file will download to the computer, click on this when it has finished and it will open and you can see the file. Your next step is going to be to print this and take it to the passport agency or acceptance office. This has just been a quick tutorial on how to make a United States passport application online.

For more information see: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/apply.html United States passports are passports issued to citizens and non-citizen nationals of the United States of America. They are issued exclusively by the U.S. Department of State. Besides issuing passports (in booklet form), also limited use passport cards are issued by the same organization subject to the same requirements. It is unlawful for U.S. citizens to enter or exit the United States without a valid U.S. passport or Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant passport-replacement document, or without an exception or waiver. U.S. passport booklets are valid for travel by Americans anywhere in the world, although travel to certain countries and/or for certain purposes may require a visa and the U.S. itself restricts its nationals from traveling to or engaging in commercial transactions in certain countries. They conform with recommended standards (i.e., size, composition, layout, technology) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). There are five types of passport booklets; as well, the Department of State has issued only biometric passports as standard since August 2007, though non-biometric passports are valid until their expiry dates. United States passports are property of the United States and must be returned to the US Government upon demand. By law, a valid unexpired U.S. passport (or passport card) is conclusive (and not just prima facie) proof of U.S. citizenship, and has the same force and effect as proof of United States citizenship as certificates of naturalization or of citizenship, if issued to a U.S. citizen for the full period allowed by law. U.S. law does not prohibit U.S. citizens from holding passports of other countries, though they are required to use their U.S. passport to enter and leave the U.S.

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which is a component of the Department of Homeland Security, will welcome you even if you come from a hotbed of jihad terrorism and have a fake passport. AFDI operative Laura Loomer went to a USCIS office and told an official that she had met a family of illegal immigrants from Syria and wanted to make sure they got immigration services, but were afraid to come in to the USCIS themselves since “they don’t have documents because they came here illegally,” with fake passports. The USCIS official was unconcerned about the fake passports, explaining, “In the case of asylees and refugees, we waive sometimes the passport, because they are unable to provide that documentation.” He was likewise unconcerned about the possibility that the migrant was falsifying his identity: “We are going to use the name on the passport as AKA, ‘also known as.’”

ACCORDING TO SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IT IS SO AMERICAN THAT WHEN BRANDISHED BEFORE A TERRORIST IT CAUSES HIM/HER TO BURST INTO FLAME. IF AN AMERICAN INVOLVED IN TAX EVASION WERE TO TOUCH IT, A MAJESTIC BALD EAGLE WOULD SWOOP FROM THE HEAVENS AND EXTRACT A POUND OF FLESH. ACCORDING TO LOCAL LEGEND AN AMERICAN DOCTOR WAS VOLUNTEERING IN A VILLAGE STRUCK BY FAMINE. WHILE UNLOADING SACKS OF GRAIN THAT WOULD HARDLY SUSTAIN THE VILLAGE FOR A WEEK. FROM OUT OF NOWHERE A BEAUTIFUL BALD EAGLE SWEPT LOW OVER THE DOCTOR'S HEAD. HE INSTINCTIVELY DOVE OUT OF THE WAY. THE MOTION CAUSED HIS AMERICAN PASSPORT TO SLIP FROM HIS VEST POCKET ONTO THE BAGS OF GRAIN. WHEN THE DOCTOR RECOVERED AND TOWARDS TRUCK HE COULD NOT BELIEVE HIS EYES. WHERE THE TRUCK WAS NOT A MOMENT AGO THERE STOOD A THREE STORY MCDONALDS RESTAURANT. NEVER AGAIN WAS THERE A HUNGRY CHILD. Sorry guys. It will probably be a couple months till I make more gaming videos.

British people hoping to travel to the United States this summer could see their travel plans ruined – unless they check their passport is suitable. From 1 April 2016, US immigration changed its rules, and won't let anyone into the country without a valid biometric passport. This could affect up to 1.3m Britons, who still possess valid non-biometric passports. The UK only stopped issuing non-biometric passports in November 2006. Radio 5 live Daily's Sam Walker spoke to Hannah, who says her family holiday to Florida was ruined after her partner was refused travel at Gatwick Airport check-in. He eventually got to the States, but only after spending two days and £700 getting a new biometric passport. Hannah said: "We walked up to the check-in desk. They just turned round to my other half and said you can’t fly. What annoys me more is that British Airways didn’t inform me when I phoned them [beforehand].” British Airways told us: “The week before our customers travel to the US, we also send a reminder email recommending they check they have the right documentation, with links to detailed information on the changes on the Department for Homeland Security website and ba.com.”

Now any felony conviction can be an annoying problem for anyone, but it doesn’t have to be a major setback for you. Reason being is that the US State department reviews each and every passport application they receive and they do make decisions on felony passports on a per case basis. There are some reasons that a felony conviction could hurt your chances of getting a passport, because there are some reasons why your application will most definitely be rejected. For instance…if you are convicted of a drug-related felony or even certain drug-related misdemeanors, you are ineligible to get a passport. If you are a deadbeat parent and you owe child support payments…you cant get a passport until you clear up your payments and if the State Department decides that you are a threat to national security, you may be denied a passport. You will also be disqualified if you have been ruled legally incompetent if you’re subject to a felony arrest or have been forbidden by court order, parole or probation from leaving the country. Is it only a matter of time before your US passport becomes worthless? Andrew is talking about interesting things that recently happened, that could possibly affect the value of the US passport. After releasing our Passport Index, people were upset, as US passport is not even in the top 20. So what made the US lower than a couple of European countries? It’s not just small arguments that the US has with other countries (like Brazil). Recently, the European Parliament has voted to end visa-free travel for Americans within the EU. The passing of the non-binding vote comes after the US failed to agree visa-free travel for citizens of five EU countries: Poland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania & Croatia – as part of a reciprocity agreement. The vote urges the revocation of the scheme within two months, meaning Americans will have to apply for extra documents for 12 months after the European Commission implements this act. Would this really happen? Andrew thinks not yet, but time - when you should be aware that second passport might be more important than you think - is here. What is world's most underrated passport? Watch this video to find out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQWPqYFvyF0 Subscribe to our channel and stay tuned for more videos and information about second passports, offshore strategy, reducing your taxes and going where you're treated best. --- ABOUT NOMAD CAPITALIST Andrew Henderson travels to nearly 30 countries every year to stay up to date on the latest legal strategies for entrepreneurs and investors to pay less tax, grow their money faster, and build their personal freedom. Andrew started Nomad Capitalist to help people like you follow his five magic words: "go where you're treated best". He has personally started foreign companies, opened offshore bank accounts, and obtained multiple second passports. He also learned the hard way that perpetual information seeking is often the biggest barrier to getting the results you want. Many entrepreneurs spend months and even years constantly researching how to pay less in tax or live overseas, but are afraid to make the jump. As a result, they get stuck and keep paying a fortune in taxes and never get the lifestyle they deserve. Nomad Capitalist's Youtube channel is based on Andrew's vision that focusing on the end result, rather than the latest shiny object, is the best way to actually obtain the benefits of the Nomad Capitalist lifestyle.
