The Mississippi and Missouri Rivers combine to form the longest river system in the USA and North America. It is also the fourth longest in the world. At its widest point, the Mississippi River stretches out over 7 miles (11 km) in width. The Mississippi River lies in the following ten US states: Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Mississippi River has had strong historical significance in the USA from Native American tribes through to European explorers, the American Civil War, the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and its modern commercial uses. The first bridge built across the Mississippi River was in 1855 with the first railroad bridge finished a year later in 1856. Martin Strel, a Slovenian swimmer who is famous for swimming the length of entire rivers conquered the Mississippi over 68 days in 2002. The Ancient Pyramid City of Cahokia, named by modern people in America, lies in the state of Illinois. The city stands today along the Mississippi River. But this city is not Cahokia. It is a real city that existed in America just before the Europeans got here. Funny, we just never cared. The city is actually Manti. The chief city of the land of Manti. It was situated near the headwaters of the Sidon, which is modern day Missouri, where it intersects with the Mississippi River. It was the most southerly city of importance in that region. Being an outlying settlement of the Nephites, though strongly fortified, it suffered greatly by the invasions of the Lamanites. In the great war, inaugurated by Amalickiah, it was captured by the Lamanites (some time before B. C. 66), and by them converted into an important base for their operations against the Nephites, both east and west.* In B. C. 63, Gid and Teomner, two Nephite generals, recaptured it by stratagem; and Helaman took his Ammonite and other troops there and made it his headquarters. It was not again captured by the Lamanites during that long and disastrous war. In later Lamanite invasions it undoubtedly fell, more than once, into their hands, as it was in the direct line of the course they generally took when entering the Nephite territory.

We have selected 100 unique places on Earth that are projected to undergo profound changes within the next few generations. We based our selection of the 100 places on the 4th Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Simply by drawing attention to the beauty of these places, 100 Places to Remember Before they Disappear creates an argument to preserve them. The 100 Places we have chosen to highlight, and the people who live in them, are in serious danger because of rising sea levels, rising temperatures and extreme weather events triggered by climate change. Among ambassadors are Joss Stone, Desmund Tutu for more info visit http://www.100places.com. The Natural Barricades of Louisiana From its source at Lake Itasca in Minnesota, the Mississippi River flows southwards for more than 3,700 km until it reaches Louisiana, where it runs into the Gulf of Mexico. This is the Mississippi River Delta - a humid, subtropical landscape with around 25,000 square kilometres of rivers, fresh and saltwater marshes and low-lying barrier islands that provide a habitat for many species of birds, fish, shellfish and small mammals. Some 1.2 million people live in New Orleans on the banks of the Mississippi. On average, the city is half a metre below sea level. The rich delta is of huge commercial importance to New Orleans - the region is ranked second in the United States for fishery production and also provides 16-18% of the nations oil supply. At the rim of the delta, at the state of Louisianas most eastern point, the Chandeleur Islands form a chain in the shape of a crescent moon. These islands change shape to reflect the wind, tropical storms and tidal action, creating a dynamic landscape that is home to endangered species such as the brown pelican. President Theodor Roosevelt was deeply involved in the preservation of this island wilderness during his term of office from 1901-1909. Along with the delta wetlands, the Chandeleur Islands form a buffer zone against hurricanes and storm surges for the densely populated regions of Louisiana. The ferocity of storms along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States has already increased, almost certainly as a result of climate change. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina reduced the Chandeleur Islands to half their size and large tracts of wetland and marsh were also lost. Storms and hurricanes are expected to grow even fiercer in the future. To make matters worse, the rise in sea level caused by global warming has slowed down the rate at which it is possible to regenerate coastal areas, leaving the mainland of Louisiana even more exposed to flooding, with potentially catastrophic consequences for the ecosystems and for the people of the state.

Please Like, Share & Subscribe, to help this and other videos posted on this channel to be seen by as many as possible, in these last days before Jesus Christ returns!!! Updated 3/8/18 - Hi guys, I received what I believed was a serious word of warning from the Holy Spirit last night, which I'm including under several videos to try to get the word out. What I heard in a waking dream though was that a major earthquake was imminent, and was soon to hit the San Francisco Bay area, in California. Several times before I've received warnings for specific areas, but have never been told that something is imminent. So I just wanted to get this warning out to everyone this morning, but would ask for anyone living in or visiting that area to use discernment and to take it to the Lord in prayer yourselves as well. Thanks, and God bless! Mathew 4:17 (KJV) From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. One of the most important prophecies concerning the season which we are in is the Parable of the Fig Tree, which is found in Mathew 24, in which Jesus foretold of the Jewish people’s return to Israel which occurred in 1948, wherein He said that the generation which witnesses this come to pass would be the last generation before His return… This prophecy, without any doubt in my mind, points to this generation as being the one which will see the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ... Hallelujah!!! Luke 21:28 (KJV) And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. Romans 1:20 (KJV) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. Salvation: What Must I do to be Saved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CppqsPjlRo The true Gospel of Christ is found in 1 Corinthians 15, which tells you that you will be saved if you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for all of our sins, was buried, and that he rose again on the third day and ascended into heaven where He sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. A sinner's prayer would include a believer professing all of this, but also should include repentance and the asking of forgiveness for all of your sins (Mathew 4:17). Once you've done this, if you haven't done so already, by professing your faith, believing in the gospel and repenting of your sins, then the bible says that you will be saved. Amen, and come Lord Jesus soon!!! Just remember though that Mary can’t save you, Allah can’t save you, Buddha can’t save you, and Joseph Smith can’t save you… Only Yeshua Hamashiach, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior can save you; as Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) Romans 10:9 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The United States Army and the Mississippi River Commission explain the importance of the Mississippi River as a major trade waterway in “Valley of the Giant,” a black-and-white from the 1940s. A map (mark 00:55) shows the Mississippi River and its many outlets as the narrator explains its importance and its reach of over 1 million square miles, draining water from more than 30 states and two Canadian provinces. We listen to the slap of paddle wheels on the river (mark 03:17) and see large freighters and ocean vessels make their way through the water as the narrator continues to explain its importance to shipping, linking the Great Lakes to the Seven Seas. The film shows how the river can overflow its banks during a storm (mark 06:06) damaging the surrounding land and endangering life as we see the massive destruction of the delta that resulted from the 1927 flood (mark 07:37). Starting at mark 08:40, the film explores the Army Corps of Engineers' methods of maintaining it as a safe navigational channel and also details how the Corps has built countless levees, dams, floodways and other protective barriers in order to prevent a reoccurrence of the flood. We learn how engineers in the 1930s straightened portions of the river (mark 14:46) between Memphis and Baton Rouge to allow a straighter flow of water and alleviate flooding, and as the film continues we see additional construction efforts take place. By mark 25:00, the narrator explains how such efforts have resulted in a valley that is better protected from the rushing waters. We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting? Tell people what it is and what they can see by writing something for example: "01:00:12:00 -- President Roosevelt is seen meeting with Winston Churchill at the Quebec Conference." The Mississippi River Delta is sinking at an alarming rate. To make informed decisions about the actions required to fix it we need to understand how the delta was formed, its importance for both wildlife and people, as well as the causes of the precipitous land loss. This video reviews these concepts while guiding us on a visually stunning journey through the under-appreciated Louisiana wetlands.

This short animation traces the path of water across the United States all the way to mouth of the Mississippi in the Gulf of Mexico through the Mississippi Watershed, the largest drainage basin in North America at 3.2 million square kilometers in area. The animation starts with the reveal of a blue line at the headwaters of the Missouri River, at Brower's Spring near the Montana-Idaho border. The streamline from this point to the mouth of the Mississippi River is the longest streamline in the Mississippi watershed. It eventually merges with the Mississippi and continues to flow all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. This animation does not show actual flow rates of the rivers. All rivers are shown with identical rates. The river colors and widths correspond to the relative lengths of river segments. Three to four hundred miles farther down the Mississippi, we begin to uncover the soul of "Man River." It's called the Mississippi Delta, and it's where fields of corn and soybeans give way to rice and cotton, crawdads and catfish. Visit http://tinyurl.com/6fessw to watch the entire episode 210.

Auckland Museum's atrium came alive with the sounds of America's southern states on Saturday 20 August 2011 - jazz, blues, Irish clog and tap dancing with a dose of country put the crowds in mind of the great Mississippi. The many stories that surround the river were also catured in the readings from Mark Twain and 'Minn of the Mississippi'. 1999 -- Venture back in time when Chad Pregracke began inspiring others to help clean America's waterways... including Missouri's River Relief efforts. produced by Missouri Dept. of Conservation - Missouri Outdoors TV show. You don’t know what’s round the next bent in the river, you know? It’s like this on the river. You got slow water, you’ve got fast water, it’s always changing, you know? Meet Chad Pregracke. A young man with boundless energy that flows from him like the Mississippi River itself. I grew up as a river kid. I used to go out fishing, a lot of scavenging on the islands, just picking up driftwood, things like that. And about the age of 15 I started working with my brother on a shell boat. I also did some commercial fishing, worked on a barge, so one way or the other, I’ve always been tied to the river. I noticed how much garbage was out there, and I didn’t see anybody or anything going on to go out there and pick it up. While in college, Chad came up with an idea he hoped would do some good and inspire others to act; the Mississippi River Beautification and Restoration Project. The idea was simple, the task monumental. Clean both banks of the Mississippi River for 435 miles from Guttenberg, Iowa to St. Louis, Missouri. Wow! This refrigerator washed up against a beaver dam is no match for Chad’s determination. It’s an adventure. I mean you never know what you’re going to pull out. And this day on the river has just begun. That is sick! Looks like a landfill, doesn’t it? Looks like somebody missed a turn! That doesn’t need to be in the river In under 3 years of operation on the river, an abbreviated list of Chad’s haul includes: 1598 bags of trash, 2197 tires, 126 refrigerators, 27 bedsprings, one 1970 Full sized van, 51 TVs, 194 propane tanks... And enough styrofoam to fill a football field one foot deep! And that’s a low estimate, too! But there’s more to keeping this project afloat than most people see. Actually, working the phones takes more out of me than actual physical work. Money turns the props. That’s how I say it, you know. Without my sponsors, I can’t go out there and do it. It takes a lot of money to keep it going. I try to take the word, ‘discouraged’ out of my vocabulary and put ‘persistence there. But sometimes it’s hard because you get so many ‘NOs’. I’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done. Then it’s back out on the water. With his eyes on the river, Chad sees things other than trash on the Mississippi and its tributaries that concern him. That’s a perfect example. Probably less than 10 years ago this was a good running slough with probably clams in it, you know, lots of fish, you know, and now it’s not even probably 6 inches deep. Dirt is the Bread and butter of America. And here we are just washing it away, you know. It really irks me and I’m going to hope to fight that someday too. For today’s fight, Chad enlists help to retrieve a large tank. Even though this project often looks like a one man show, he insists it’s the hard work and dedication of many that feed the program’s success. Teamwork gets the job done, meaning all my sponsors, my crew, everything! It’s slipping, Dude! Get out from underneath! All right, that’s it. Got it! I enjoy it. I enjoy the work. I believe in it. It’s time for something positive to happen and this is the gig. It’s the one. Alright! Operation big mystery barrel thing done! Well, almost. Hold it! There it is! Yeah!!! The job’s not over ‘til they recycle what they can. Tires will go to a shredder or incinerator, one of the two. Metal and aluminum will go to the scrap yards. Like a propane tank, I’ll take back to the propane place. And I don’t need any money for it, you know? I’m just happy if they take it off my hands. For those who may doubt the sincerity of their recycle and reuse philosophy, make note of the houseboat they work out of. It was sunk on the bottom for a day or two. It was headed for a landfill. They were going to crush it and throw it away. So that was a recycled boat, and that’s pretty nice to say, you know, we’re living on a recycled boat. And it’s called, ‘the Miracle’. That was the name of it. It’s a Miracle! This man lives what he believes. And what’s more, he believes in others. People can definitely make a difference, for sure! I might not be picking up garbage. It might be, you know, just trying to fix up your shore front. Or maybe you live on a stream way up and you just want to fix up the stream bank. It all adds to it and it all helps, that’s for sure! And Chad will continue his river crusade making the rivers he loves a better place for all of us. It’s like an adventure and it’s a tough adventure, but a good adventure. That’s for sure! Everything you do helps no matter how small.

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News VICE News correspondent Thomas Morton investigates Asian carp — a slimy, ugly, and often gargantuan species of fish that has taken over many waterways in the United States. First introduced in the US in the 1960s to control weeds and parasites at aquatic farms in Arkansas, the bottom feeders eventually escaped and made their way through the Mississippi River system, eating almost everything in their path and severely damaging ecosystems across the Midwest. Today, government officials are concerned that the fish will invade the Great Lakes, destroy more ecosystems, wreak havoc on the region's multibillion dollar fishing industry, and spread to almost every major waterway in the Northeast. VICE News traveled across Illinois to see how people are dealing with the Asian carp invasion, visiting the Redneck Fishing Tournament — where the sole mission is to catch as many carp as possible — touring a processing plant trying to monetize the fish, and then heading to Chicago, where we learned that Asian carp are a symptom of a much larger issue.
