You are likely to be treated to a torrent of platitudes about assault weapons, gun show sales and other half-measures. These sorts of proposals are rooted in a theory of gun control that has been around since the 1960s. The basic idea is that fewer guns equal less gun crime. But for this theory to have even a chance of working, drastic reductions in the supply of guns will be necessary. Everything else amounts to security theatre. The late Senator Howard Metzenbaum, a strong gun control advocate, explained it this way: “If you don’t ban all guns you might as well ban none of them.” But few, if any, politicians who call for “common sense gun control” have the courage to propose this. Even putting aside the issue of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which affirms the right to keep and bear arms, a gun ban has no broad popular support. Never mind the conservative states, handgun ban referendums failed in two of our most liberal states - Massachusetts in 1976 and California in 1982 – by large margins. No serious attempts have been made since then. Recently Australia’s gun control efforts have gained new prominence as a possible model for the United States to follow. Let’s take a closer look at Australia. In 1996, after a lunatic used a semiautomatic rifle to murder 34 people in Tasmania, the Australian government banned all semi-automatic rifles and repeating shotguns. Owners of roughly 700,000 registered firearms – about a quarter of the country’s three million total guns – were required to turn them in for destruction. The government called this a “buyback,” but in fact no one had a choice. As my research shows, this model will not work in the United States for the simple reason that the US has roughly 325 million guns. This is orders of magnitude more than any other country. Even if the Australian plan were tried in the US and worked to perfection, we’d still be left with over 200 million guns, including handguns which account for nearly 80 percent of gun crime. How zip codes helped organize America

03:49
Zip codes, explained. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Zip codes were invented in 1963 to help the United States Postal Service deal with huge increases in mail volume. The Zone Improvement Plan, or “ZIP” code system of addressing, organized mail delivery by dividing the country into 10 regions and assigning five digits increasing in specificity: from region to large sorting centers to smaller post offices. To promote the new system, the USPS released publicity materials featuring Mr. Zip, a cartoon character, and a song about zip codes from a band called The Swingin’ Six. As the nation grew, the USPS updated zip codes by adding a four-digit suffix in 1983. The new suffix corresponds to specific destinations, such as one side of a street or a certain floor of an office building. Now, geocoding technology has created the possibility of even more specific addressing. What is the Keto Diet and How Does It Work?

03:38
To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/thehealthnerds/ If you’ve read any weight loss blogs or been on Youtube lately, you’ve probably come across the term Ketosis. So, today we’re going to answer the question; what is the keto diet and how does it work? If you’ve never heard of Ketosis, well, this is basically a question about the benefits of a low-carbohydrate diet. Let’s start with a basic fact of physiology; for many important parts of your body, glucose is the number one fuel. Brain, red blood cells, testes, and many others, will all shout for glucose without even looking at the menu. Glucose is normally created from carbohydrates. However, sometimes there’s no carbs and so no glucose available. So your body had to evolve a way to replace glucose and avoid going into hypoglycaemia, where your blood sugar is dangerously low, leading to dizziness, loss of motor skills and eventually unconsciousness and death, which is not super fun. There are two main ways for your body to deal with a lack of glucose. One is gluconeogenesis, were glucose is created from a non-carbohydrate source like lactates, proteins or lipids. And the other, the one we’re looking at today, is ketosis. This is where the liver converts fats into fatty acids and ketones. Now, in the old days, before gyms, jogging groups and calorie counting apps, ketosis would mostly only occur at times of starvation or as part of certain illnesses. Okay, now that doesn’t sound good but old diets were not a matter of choice, they were a matter of availability. Today, we get to choose what we eat. But, remember that illness thing; we’re going to come back to that for some fascinating research. So, should you choose a keto diet? What does the research say? The diet is generally defined as a strict 50g limit on carbohydrates per day. More than this and it’s unlikely ketosis will begin. Most keto diets are also mainly fat, sometimes up to 80%. In comparison to other to other low-carb diets, a 2006 study from Arizona State University showed that there were no advantages to a keto diet over any others like Atkins or Paleo when it comes to weight loss. As we’ve mentioned before on this channel, it’s calorie restriction that really makes the difference for losing weight and the only real advantage a low carb diet provides is that fats are a little more satiating than carbohydrates. Beyond weight loss, there are some very exciting papers on keto and how it relates to certain illnesses, as we mentioned before. Firstly, it has been proven for almost a century, that diets similar to the keto, can dramatically reduce seizures from epilepsy. And it doesn’t end there. There have been studies from Florida, exploring the benefits for Navy Seal divers and protection from the oxygen toxicity seizures they are sometimes susceptible to. Many other studies are looking at the effect on cancer growth. The keto diet clearly slows the metabolism and this has been shown to slow the growth of even very aggressive tumours in rats. And there’s a handful of other research into various areas such as acne, Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s. Is the Keto Diet Health Nerd Approved? Yep. It’s certainly not for everyone, but the keto diet is a o.k. for a normal and healthy individual. How long does it take to go into ketosis? Well, it will take about 2 to 3 days to use up the reserves of glucose that you have, after which you will enter ketosis. Finally, what happens if you break your carb limit? If you go over the carb limit, you will stop the process but remember, as we said, this hasn’t been shown to affect your weight loss so, if that is your goal, it doesn’t really matter if you’re in or out of ketosis. Thanks for watching, we’re always interested in any anecdotal evidence from our audience so please let us know if you’ve ever kicked the carbs and gone keto, and how that worked out for you. Hit subscribe for more scientific insight into your health and wellbeing from the Health Nerd, or just because you know we clap like excited school girls every time that subscriber count rises –it’s actually pretty tiring, but we do it anyway, you know, for the exercise.

Trump’s Personal Driver Sues Him For 25 Years Of Unpaid Overtime Work

02:43
Donald Trump’s personal driver for the last 25 years has filed a lawsuit against Trump for allegedly failing to pay him for overtime hours that he worked during that time. The total number of unpaid hours worked by this man are in the THOUSANDS, and this story gives us yet another glimpse into how Donald Trump treats his employees. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.   Link – https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-07-09/trump-s-personal-driver-for-25-years-sues-for-unpaid-overtime Support us by becoming a monthly patron on Patreon, and help keep progressive media alive!: https://www.patreon.com/TheRingofFire Spread the word! See, Noel Cintron was actually Donald Trump's personal driver for 25 years and according to the lawsuit that Mr. Cintron just filed against Donald Trump, he worked more than 3,000 of overtime over the last six years alone and was not paid for any of those overtime hours worked. Now the reason it's only for the last six years is because the statute of limitations has expired on any years past that. In the area where this lawsuit was filed, you can only go back to ix years. So that's what he's doing. He's got documentation. He's got proof that he worked about 3300 hours of overtime, but was not given overtime pay for those hours. Furthermore, he also says that in the last 15 years, he was only given two pay increases and the second pay increase was actually offset by Donald Trump by cutting the man's health benefits. In case you're wondering, this is one of the reasons why Donald Trump has so much money. He doesn't pay people for the services that they perform for either him or his businesses because let's keep in mind, here's the list. Here's a list of some of the other groups of people that Trump has not paid for doing work for him. Mortgage brokers, landscapers, electricians, plumbers, suppliers for his hotels. The list is seemingly endless. Donald Trump doesn't pay for work that is done for him. We have documented evidence of that. We have plenty of lawsuits and settlements from Trump himself that prove this. So anyone out there in this country who is still suffering under the delusion that Donald Trump is going to be a man of the people, you need to take a good, hard look at these lawsuits. I suggest you get online and you actually read through the complaint filing and see what this president has been doing to the people who work for him because if he is willing to screw over people who have been by his side for 25 years, just imagine what he is willing to do to the rest of us that he's never even met. I imagine that we're gonna get screwed over even harder than the people who actually worked for the President and, as all indicators tell us right now, we already are.

What is a Bump Stock? Should it be illegal?!

06:45
How does a bump stock work? This video will demonstrate how a bumpstock works when attached to a Semi-Automatic AR-15. This has been in the news quite a bit lately as the United States government holds hearings on whether this gun accessory should be banned. This video shows how a Bump Stock works, and what it can accomplish while attached to an AR-15. It is currently illegal for private United states citizens to own a fully automatic firearm. (As of 1986) BUT bump stocks are only an accessory to a rifle, and don't actually alter the gun to fire automatically. So they are totally legal as of the posting of this video, anyone can buy one, and anyone can shoot with one. The question is: Should it stay legal? or should this accessory be regulated? What is an API?

03:25
What exactly is an API? Finally learn for yourself in this helpful video from MuleSoft, the API experts. https://www.mulesoft.com/platform/api The textbook definition goes something like this: “An application programming interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. An API expresses a software component in terms of its operations, inputs, outputs, and underlying types. An API defines functionalities that are independent of their respective implementations, which allows definitions and implementations to vary without compromising each other. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. APIs often come in the form of a library that includes specifications for routines, data structures, object classes, and variables. In other cases, notably SOAP and REST services, an API is simply a specification of remote calls exposed to the API consumers. An API specification can take many forms, including an International Standard, such as POSIX, vendor documentation, such as the Microsoft Windows API, or the libraries of a programming language, e.g., the Standard Template Library in C++ or the Java APIs. An API differs from an application binary interface (ABI) in that an API is source code-based while an ABI is a binary interface. For instance POSIX is an API, while the Linux Standard Base provides an ABI”. To speak plainly, an API is the messenger that runs and delivers your request to the provider you’re requesting it from, and then delivers the response back to you. To give you a familiar example, think of an API as a waiter in a restaurant. Imagine you’re sitting at the table with a menu of choices to order from, and the kitchen is the provider who will fulfill your order. What’s missing is the critical link to communicate your order to the kitchen and deliver your food back to your table. That’s where the waiter (or API) comes in. ”AHEM” The waiter takes your order, delivers it to the kitchen, and then delivers the food (or response) back to you. (Hopefully without letting your order crash if designed correctly) Now that we’ve whetted your appetite, let’s apply this to a real API example. In keeping with our theme, let’s book a flight to a culinary capital – Paris. You’re probably familiar with the process of searching for airline flights online. Just like at a restaurant, you have a menu of options to choose from ( a dropdown menu in this case). You choose a departure city and date, a return city and date, cabin class, and other variables (like meal or seating, baggage or pet requests) In order to book your flight, you interact with the airline’s website to access the airline’s database to see if any seats are available on those dates, and what the cost might be based on certain variables. But, what if you are not using the airline’s website, which has direct access to the information? What if you are using online travel service that aggregates information from many different airlines? Just like a human interacts with the airline’s website to get that information, an application interacts with the airline’s API. The API is the interface that, like your helpful waiter, runs and and delivers the data from that online travel service to the airline’s systems over the Internet. It also then takes the airline’s response to your request and delivers right back to the online travel service . And through each step of the process it facilitates that interaction between the travel service and the airline’s systems - from seat selection to payment and booking. So now you can see that it’s APIs that make it possible for us all to use travel sites. They interface with with airlines’ APIs to gather information in order to present options back to us The same goes for all interactions between applications, data and devices - they all have API’s that allow computers to operate them, and that's what ultimately creates connectivity. API’s provide a standard way of accessing any application, data or device whether it is shopping from your phone, or accessing cloud applications at work. So, whenever you think of an API, just think of it as your waiter running back and forth between applications, databases and devices to deliver data and create the connectivity that puts the world at our fingertips. And whenever you think of creating an API, think MuleSoft.

Here's What Your Baby Will Look Like

04:15
What will my children look like? Who will they be similar to? For most people, this is an incredibly interesting question. Fortunately, we live in the age when scientists have done so much research into this subject that they can give us relatively convincing answers long before a new life appears. Here’s a rough guide which will help you find out whether your children are going to be blue-eyed, brown-haired, have a big nose or a small one, as well as plenty of other things. Literally, anyone can use this and make a good guess about the appearance of their future sons and daughters. Fascinating! TIMESTAMPS Strong and weak genes 0:30 What the color of your future child’s eyes will be 1:04 How strong genes dominate weak ones 2:13 Genes skip generations 2:52 SUMMARY - Modern science can predict what physical characteristics your child will inherit from you. This information is encoded into your genes that can either be dominant or recessive. - If you have dark skin, dark-colored eyes, curly and dark hair, a big nose, thick lips, and a wide chin, it means your genes are strong. Your genes can be considered weak if you have red or light-colored hair, straight hair, gray or blue eyes, fair skin, and left-handedness. - Also, keep in mind that a person’s physical characteristics are the result of the displacement of several genes of their parents. Therefore, what exactly they will look like cannot be predicted with certainty. Genes can skip several generations and reappear. It means a person can inherit certain genes from their grandparents or even great-grandparents. What about your family? Have you noticed how genes skip generations in your family?
