The Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy Note8 are two of the most expensive Android phones on sale today. But despite being the best phones on offer from their respective manufacturers, each takes quite a different approach to the ultra-premium phone formula. Which do you think comes out on top?

Hi Android police. I want to buy a new good camera phone and really confused between pixel 2 xl and note 8 and iPhone 8 plus. Help me out. I don't want to buy note 8 offcourse but my fight is between iphone 8 plus and pixel 2 xl. Please help.
im waiting out for the Galaxy S9 but if its not out by March of this year, then i need to decide between the two. The less appealing thing on the Pixel 2 is that lack of the headphone jack, i dont have wireless headphones so leaning towards the Note 8. I cherish speed, the Pixel seems quick and is guaranteed to get the updates which is nice, but that only lasts a few years. I loved my Nexus 7 tablet, i used it everyday for like 3 years, and didnt notice too much slowdowns, so if i did get a pixel i think id like it.
Great vid. Also, Pixel is only available on Verizon. That's a drawback for most people who lease or finance phones rather than dropping almost $1k for a phone you'll likely upgrade in a year anyway. Love my Note 8 after 6 years with iPhone. But I can tell I'd love Pixel too.
Returned my pixel 2 XL for the smaller pixel 2. Do not regret it one bit. Was worried about battery life, but I have zero issues making it through a full day. As a bonus it charges super fast. Pixel 2>note 8 for me due to better cameras and faster/more OS updates. Google is promising three years of updates. Can't beat that. Good video!
I am considering note 8 or the pixel 2 smaller version. While I reaaally like the note 8 design, I love the consistent updates on google poxel phones. What do you guys think?
I am new to android, I always had an iPhone, but im full of that shit I want something new and better.
Thank you for picking a side unlike a lot of other reviewers. I have been back and forth and still haven't gotten off the fence to pick one. If I made a purchase tonight it would be the Note 8, but had I made a purchase just a week ago it would have been the Pixel 2 XL. I really want to try the pure Google experience for once in my life, but the bad press has SPOOKED me on the Pixel 2 XL. Thanks for an awesome review and again thanks for actually picking a side :-)
Pixel 2 XL all the way! If you have problems with headphone jack, it comes with an adapter. Just a little compromise, but personally it sounds better than my G6.
They have improved the display, blue shift still there but does not bother me. (Who looks at their phone tilted anyway).
Lastly, the camera, the pure google experience and battery life will blow you away!
The note 8 can do more.. I know you guys are going to jump at me here but I have the note 8 and I've never had any issues with lag. Try and copy my message here.... on your Google pixel. Notice how it won't let you. ?? On the note 8 you can use smart select feature and extract text. My point is that the best smartphone isn't the fastest our the one with best camera. There all close . It's the one that gets the job done and efficiently. Time is money for most of us out there. I'm not saying that the pixel 2xl isn't a good phone cause yes. The battery life and speed are better. But is that all the Google has on the note 8.. I can magnify things . I can translate . Much quicker with this . Not to mention I can multitask and shrink Windows down. There's no app you can install to do those things .. I edited a spreadsheet due to my spen. I tried doing it on my friends android and we were not able too. Also. You can buy dex and turn this phone into a computer. Features are what make a phone good..
Note 8 FTW..... and, why even compare Bixby with Google assistant? All Android users already know which is superior. I use Google assistant daily on my note 8 and it works exactly the same as on the pixil 2. Somewhat misleading..... And Nova launcher can make any phone look like any other.
Android police. In this review you mentioned that "newer fresher pixel 2xl's from the factory have slightly less crummy displays compared to the first batch". Is this actually true? is google actually putting updated displays on the fresh batches of pixel 2 xls??
Note 8 software suck
Bt pixel hardware suckkkkkk
Google neglected neccessary features like Water proofing, plasticky body, giant bezzles, headphone jack, and ohhh the worst screen in the world
And considering the price google pixel is poop
Out of all phone on the market right now I think the Note is one of the most special in terms of UX, Design, Features. All of that actually justify its high price tag. Any other phone with that high price, you'd be just paying for the name.
LOL No headphone jack on the Pixel 2 after they made fun of Apple for not having one last year. FAIL!!!! Note 8 all the way. Although I'm sticking with my LG V20, which not only has a quad-dac headphone jack it has a replaceable battery also!!!! The phones are getting WORSE over time, yet you SHEEP keep buying them. Mindblowing.
after trying stock android for the first time on my pixel 2 xl after having other android phones that was not stock I can tell the buttery smooth difference coming from them. I can see now why people say theres stock android and then theres others with heavy ui skins and I don't like the beauty modes alot of these smartphones put on the front cameras I had on my old samsung I never used the front camera pixels front camera is amazing you never know when the front cameras going to come in handy.....The display might not be the best but it's not the worse screen i've had either.
Samsung hardware and Google software is my dream. Unfortunately, its one or the other. I'm a software freak. It has to be elegant, snappy, smooth and updated. Google's pure android phones are always my pick with android. Its the purest form of android you can get.
I've owned a samsung since 2013 and i'm over it. Those phones are monsters the first 2-4 months then start gradually becoming problematic.
The best phone i've ever owned was the nexus 4. That was my baby.
