The hardware is amazing but... It still is not as good as a Windows PC. We can't do all that our Laptops can do. And why would we like to keep a smartphone, a larger and more powerful smartphone also being a little weaker and lesser compatible laptop, and also a Windows Laptop.
Chrome OS is a much better experience than Windows, Ubuntu or Mac.
I only need Windows for gaming, but then I'm not utilizing the OS so much.
Chrome OS just works, as a work laptop and as a browser laptop. I love all the good productivity apps available.
Yes, this replaced my windows laptop and my android tablet and I'm never looking back. I ordered a I7 pixelbook and pixel 2 phone and the pen. If your lifestyle allows you the budget, go for it. I can edit and generate all my MS Office documents through Google docs and they convert into the format i need at my office. When i go through airports, it's easier to go through the checkpoints with such a slim and light device. By the way, I kept my Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse from my old HP laptop. The MS Touch Arc Touch mouse turns off when you fold it flat and it mates perfect with the Pixelbook and has the similar material surfaces and colors. I use the google pen when i'm in tablet mode and the Microsoft mouse when actually doing productivity. Despite all these peripherals, the glass touchpad works perfectly. When I'm airborne on a flight, I just use the glass trackpad for tight spaces. Remember this device now operates both android and chrome apps.
Good review but, the "could you switch" wasn't addressed..? The Pixelbook does NOT run a few key and simple apps that are on my Pixel 2 such as Messages (Google txt app) and Duo, which is Google video calling. The Apple laptops run facetime and iMessage apps so......... I mean, c'mon.. if the Pixelbook can tether to my Pixel 2 then these apps SHOULD be usable with the Pixelbook. It's lame that they're not. Also, Best Buy does NOT offer any protection plan at all for the Pixelbook...beware. Walmart does though.
It seems epic, and I love just about everything to do with Google, but Chrome OS doesn't do it for me. Its just a giant phone/tablet with a keyboard. I'd like to see Google make their OS be able to run AAA games (run Steam) and have to power to do things available on Microsoft. If you could support gaming, I'd buy one in a flash!
Unless your a hacker DO NOT buy the pixelbook, nothing will work, or worse youll like it and make the switch then slowly realize that nothing works.
By the way I am an owner of the pixelbook and its my favorite device but I am a developer and without spending hours and hours hacking nothing would work.
~1% of the stuff that doesnt work on pixelbook:
Bluetooth: (try connecting pixelbuds to pixelbook lol)
Tuns of apps
common kernel interupts
Always on top
Most root apps
system sleep/wake locks
I can keep going on and on but the point is nothing will work as expected and unless your a hacker or a internet browsing sheep I'd bet you will hate it.
