Arm recently announced three new designs: a new CPU core, the Cortex-A76; a new GPU, the Mali-G76; and a new video processor, the Mali-V76. All three components will play important roles in devices for 2019 — not only smartphones, but also Arm-based Windows 10 laptops.

All big.LITTLE and DynamIQ processors can run all the cores simultaneously. This was never an issue on Android (except for a some very early versions, but that was over 5 years ago). It was only Apple who had this thing of not running all the cores simultaneously.
S7 edge is flagship phone from 2016. When comparing the exynos model with snapdragon model , the snapdragon variant clearly wins in terms of graphics performance (Mali-T880 gives about 260 GFLOPS vs Adreno 407.4-498.5 GFLOPS) . Apple and Qualcomm are way ahead of Arm in terms of gpu.
The lag could be for lots of reasons, not necessarily the GPU. In fact I doubt it is the GPU. But in terms of the GPU, the S7 edge has a Mali-T880, that is the previous generation of Mali architecture. Arm released the Bifrost architecture with the Mali-G71, since then we have had the G72, and now the G76. Your current device has little in common with the latest Mali GPUs.
Really interesting video as usual.
Double the performance is a generic statement many tech companies have done and failed to deliver because it's almost impossible to deliver double the performance on ANY aspect. Also double the performance considering the almost non existant performance of available "always connected laptops" means nothing to me.
Hey Garry, thanks for explaining, i have some questions and some thought to share.
is Adreno from qualcomm is based on Mali ? or not because its always preform better then Exynos and Kirin in gpu
and if Samsung increased GPU cores can they compete with Adreno?
and regarding CPU its kinda weird that in s8 the exynos version preformed better and had better battery life, even tho that they under-clocked it to be similar to SD version but not in s9 the SD version preform better and have better battery life.
anyway using SD and exynos you can notice that SD is always more stable then exynos and Kirin is the worst always in stability and adopting new Arch (they are around 6 months late then Qualccom/samsung), next kirin will definitely be on A75 because kirin 970 was based on A73 (released end of 2017).
they are some leaks already that Manggose 4 will preform way better then A76, isn't it a custom core based on A76 ?similar to kryo?
btw isn't A55 outdated, shouldn't they release a new version of it this year ?
Precisely U H89. You hit the nail right on the head. This is the most important issue to hit computing in the last 20 years so why don't reviewers focus on this? I will not buy anything that suffers from these bugs. Come on Gary, explain.
Whilst I believe that these are all good things, and there's some amazing hardware coming out soon, I do feel, Gary, that you've drunk the cool-aid on the presentations a little. I'd be really surprised if, when it comes out, the hardware can match the numbers on release.
@garyexplains @garysims , with #ARM's new #CoretexA76 chipset Micro design Architecture, are we not ending up in same #Spectra and #Meltdown issues that we faced beginning of this year in computer based chipsets #Intel and #AMD?
It's good that they are taking consideration the notebook market but at this point buying and ARM notebook is a waste of money unless you want it for the hell of it. It's more than 3 times the price of one of those new atom-based chips with even less performance in real use. Let's wait a few more generations to star getting hyped.
I was about to buy a new phone with a snapdragon 845, should i wait till next year, is it there gonna be a huge diffrence between the two or is it gonna be the normal jump in perfomane like every year ?
Ps: i change my phone every 3 or 4 years.
Help please .
Just beautiful. The best in terms of presentation and deliver of the content concerned. Any body can understand it, such simple is the way of approach. Thank you Gary sir and Android Authority. Please keep the good work going. Thank you. 🙂👍
looks like apple will have some problems if arm is now able to do windows with no compromise we will start seeing mobile widows devices agian arm will be making more money for more R&D pushing to catch up and even pass apples in house design policies.
