3D solar towers: would be the solution to the low efficiency solar panels.
Developments around the use of renewable energy continues, the reduction in the cost of photovoltaic cells, allowing more users to adopt the use of solar panels for home and thus reduce the electricity bill. Solar panels, despite being one of the most viable for the average user options are not the most efficient, as its flat design limits its efficiency at times of peak intensity of sunlight, but this could change in the future thanks to a new project at MIT that eliminates panels and 3D transforms towers.
MIT researchers have developed the first 3D solar towers with a housing made of a 3D printer, which have adapted small solar panels on two of its faces structure, this with the idea of adapting to the path of the sun and thus have greater efficiency, its creators state that would be an increase of up to 20 times more solar energy, since practically be receiving sunlight throughout the day. An attractive point within these towers, is that it is printed 3D structures at the nanoscale that could be behind the panels, so there would be an obstruction and receiving sunlight is better spent. On the other hand, to solve the orientation of the towers that are always pointing in the right direction, the base would have a motor connected to a system of algorithms, which will make the tower rotate depending on the latitude and season of the year where it has been installed...
