Mendelian Genetics

4775 ratings | 996558 views
029 - Mendelian Genetics Paul Andersen explains simple Mendelian genetics. He begins with a brief introduction of Gregor Mendel and his laws of segregation and independent assortment. He then presents a number of simple genetics problems along with their answers. He also explains how advances in genetic knowledge may lead to ethical and privacy concerns. Everything God made was good and it was alkaline. I don't think people should be messing with true nature that was created by God.

mono-genetics don't add up you are saying brown eyed people live forever or allot longer than blue eyed people one word for you "repetition" the more reps you do the bigger your ego gets and through repetition you can pull a homozygous and heterozygous out of your mono-genetic hat and you can write it down in your monotheist bible that people really do live that long and its not just a bunch of mumbo jumbo its the second coming of the Christ or as you call him your brown messiah he has come back to finish off the rest of us "white genocide"
Jason Travis (3 months ago)
mendelian genetics sounds allot like mono-genetics

I recreated this experiment in my head and instead of using a purple flower and a white flower I used a white flower and a purple flower and came up with the same ratio 3:1 but it was 3 white to 1 purple explain that and explain dominant genes vs recessive

Why does everyone always stick to one channel and say their videos are great, but I'm just here switching from Khan Academy to CrashCourse to Bozeman Science. And when that doesn't work out, I go to some 15 minute video of a poor teacher who needs a better micrphone or something when explaining the topic

Why did Mendel first cross two different flowers before doing a self cross in F1??
Sardar Sons shahid (8 months ago)
raffi hayrapet to find which trait or characteristic the F1 generation is gonna carry or inherit. And to find which trait is going to be dominant and which is recessive in the F1 generation. For example:for learning the inheritance of seed shape. For this purpose he crossed(reproduced)two plants having contrasting trait(seed shape) One having round and other having wrinkled.
Cynthia Lin (1 year ago)
Didn't Mendel use pea plants? Or are the flowers just an example?
Rachana Gupta (1 year ago)
Cynthia Lin yes he used. But remember pea plants have flowers.

im sorry , but at 12:41 you concluded the probability of getting RrYy is 1/2+ 1/2 = 1/4 but isn't 1/2 +1/2( half and half equal to one) = 2/2=1 , i may be wrong, do correct me this part with explanation please and thank you!
Euphrasia Jesudas (2 years ago)
+Emily Noel ohh okay. And -multiply or- addition. Now I understand. thank you.
Emily Noel (2 years ago)
+Euphrasia Jesudas +Euphrasia Jesudas no sorry, * means multiply. 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4. In probability, 'and' means multiply and 'or' means addition. In this case, you have the probably of the seed being wrinkled AND yellow so that is why you multiply
Euphrasia Jesudas (2 years ago)
+Emily Noel ohh, you meant 1/2 with the power of 2(square) is 1/4. thank you so much!
Emily Noel (2 years ago)
+Euphrasia Jesudas 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4
Euphrasia Jesudas (2 years ago)

Euphrasia Jesudas (2 years ago)
+Mouza Al Mualla Thank you so much for sharing, I understood it.
Mouza (2 years ago)
he didn't add the two fractions, he multiplied them :). (1/2 * 1/2)= 1/4. You only add the fractions if the two results are dependent on each other, and multiply them if they are independent of each other. In this example, roundness/wrinkliness did not depend on colour and vice versa, so you would multiply.
