삼성 화웨이에 맞소송 고려
Just months after ending its lengthy patent battle with Apple, Samsung Electronics is facing lawsuits from another rival, Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies. Samsung Electronics says it's considering a counter-suit. Our Kim Jung-soo has more on the fight... over rapidly improving technology.
Huawei Technologies is suing Samsung Electronics in the U.S and China for copyright infringement. It's seeking compensation for the unlicensed use of 4G technology, operating systems and user interface software.
Huawei recently invested 10 billion of its annual 70 billion US-dollar revenue into research and development.
Experts see the lawsuit as Huawei's intention to not only protect, but also publicize its state of the art technology.
"I think it is safe to say that Huawei thinks of this lawsuit as having a marketing effect as well, just like what happened between Samsung and Apple."
According to a September 2015 survey by Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency , Huawei is number one internationally for patent applications that are crucial in the emerging market for 5G generation mobile networks.
Huawei leads with 345 patents compared to Samsung's 30.
This means when the 5G market opens, there could be even more patent disputes initiated by the Chinese company to reduce competition.
In a statement, Huawei said it hopes Samsung will get the necessary license from it and work with the Chinese phone maker.
Samsung Electronics is now processing the suits lobbed by Huawei.
If Samsung Electronics decides to counter sue, the clash could grow into a full-scale legal battle in the days and weeks to come.
