(27 Mar 2018) LEADIN: Tech experts say they're impressed by Huawei's new P20 smartphone - the device boasts a new three lens, AI-powered camera. Some say the new phone will help them compete with market rivals Apple and Samsung. STORYLINE: Hundreds of journalists and technology experts flocked to Paris' emblematic Grand Palais for Chinese communication giant Huawei's latest phone launch on Tuesday (27th March 2018). The new camera-focused Huawei P20 Pro comes with three integrated Leica lenses, and should be a serious competitor to Apple and Samsung, according to some industry experts. The new P20 Pro has a 6.1-inch OLED display with 2,240x1080 pixels. The slim device is also just 7.8 mm thick, but it's the three lens Leica camera that Huawei's shouting loudest about. "It is a very serious competitor for Apple and Samsung right now," says Wilson Wong from Singapore website "TECHGOONDU." "If it's as genius in reality as it is on paper the some (other smartphone manufacturers) should be worried," says Elisabeth Sutton from France's IDBOX.com. "I think we are here at the peak of what we can expect from a smartphone." "I think this is a big step for the industry, when we talk about the photograph, the camera on a smartphone," says Hector Cancino from Latin America's AETecno.com. The Huawei P20 Pro is set for launch in April. According to tech research firm Gartner, Huawei took a 9.8 percent share of the smartphone market last year. That left the Chinese communications giant in third place behind Samsung (20.9 percent) in first place, and Apple (14 percent) in second place.
