I want to start a degree in computer science. I've built a passion for coding lately. But will machine learning make that obsolete? Or much harder to get a nice salary with a decent company? If software engineering is replaced is there other areas for a computer science grad to be effective in?

intelligence is the information one has and how fast one can search it for an answer. It may be in human brain in form of neurons or bits on a storage device. Bottomline, we are in the process of replacing brain power!

A very concise and easy-to-understand description of ML. There's a famous quote along the lines of: "If you cant explain it to a kid, it means you dont understand it well enough". By this measure the creator of this video comes across as an expert that I would not hesitate to contact again for guidance.

it takes Kermit as a name, a word which is not translated, and the translates the frog. Why would the AI be forced to learn that Kermit is Gustavo in spanish?

It doesn't need to be that complicated. A machine does NOT need a powerful processor to learn and respond based on what was learned. The NEST thermostat is an example.

Jordan Shackelford (1 year ago)
Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a specific situation to which I would like to apply a machine learning algorithm, but I'm not sure which one to use. Let's say I have data from a bunch of transactions. I buy items and then resell them for a profit. So I have 4 main inputs for each transaction - 1)the amount of time it took me to buy the item, 2)the price I bought it for (relative to its market price, e.g. 0.97 or 97%), 3)the amount of time it took me to sell the item, 4)the price i sold it for (e.g. 103% of market price). So basically I'm looking for an algorithm that can tell me what buy price and what sell price should give me the most profit per unit of time. If I buy very low, I may make more profit off the transaction but it will take longer to find a seller. Same with selling - if I sell too high it will take a long time. I need to find that sweet spot.
Vivek Buddhadev (8 months ago)
Jordan Shackelford I think the ML requires more data to give you a good result. Which Type of Items you are buying, it's market demand at the time you baught/sell.
Qicheng Zhang (1 year ago)
This is certainly some thing to do with optimization. But ML would NOT be much helpful if your model is not good enough. If you have a very good sense of market, then I think with your well built model and ML algorithm, you would get best optimized plan.

hi there .....loved this video but what made me curious is that by giving brains to machines as in case of machine learning where machines is refining it's output by past experience and learning we are some how moving to an age where we could just be slaves of our own machines and machines may not let us pop up. so my question keeping the above argument is that what limitations or standards are we following so as to not reach that stage ?
