Aside from literally sleeping in feces, these people are dodging rats, flash floods and drug addicts. What's worse, the sewer dwellers are constantly under attack by local "death squads," who fire open rounds and pour gasoline into their underground homes, then set them ablaze.

It's depressing to see humans being treated like rats and "social cleansing" becoming a norm. Humans should have the right to at least a safe shelter. Yes, I do believe that there are certain types of evil beings that deserve the worst (pedophiles, rapists, etc.), but the only "crime" that many of these people commit is being poor.
It's very easy to judge these people for using drugs and stealing food/money when you have a roof over your head and food on your plate. Drug use is inevitable when living a life like this. Always having your guard up, never having a stable life or routine, not knowing if today is your last day, etc.- drugs are an escape from all this.
Honestly very heartbreaking.
if I had to end up there, i'd be smarter than them. i wouldnt look homeless, ask for help and actually try to live. I know there will be at least one person a day that could give me something useful.. i'd collect the things and over time Id have plenty. after I look "normal" I'd blend in with regular people and work my way up from there
i think there's always a way. theyre not trying hard enough is what i think.
EDIT UPDATE: It is not a sewer. It is indeed a storm drain. The human waste in there is from the people that live there. I checked on some Bogota sites. Sewer pipes are generally too small for humans. That, and an actual sewer is not habitable for even the most hearty of human. They are defiling their own 'homes', a storm drain could be livable. They made it a sewer. It becomes but dangerous after heavy rains. But poop from the city? No. The storm drain dwelles get weak, get high, and dont have the decency to not poop their home.
Oh my God, this is just sad, I hope these people get the necessary help needed, if I was rich I would help these people, as hard as it is to film the documentary, its good that these videos around the world bringing awareness and it is just sad. but I will promise this, I will get my shit together, and I will gather the bravery of going to these hostile devasting places not just to film but bring help of some kind rather it is money food or just genuine love from the heart, and I am here, and at first I believe I was an immoral person, but yet I have tremendous amount of emotion and feeling when I see happiness sadness and just pure anger.
This is naive hippster journalism at its finest.
1: Not a single kid there, only hardened drug users. And frankly, I do not pity those. They're happy in their way.
2: those guys tell a lot of horrible stories, but that's just what junkies do. Ever talked to one before?
3. They fill every space with junk, even the luxury sewer flat, like hoarders, but they are just messy. Messed up their lives, mess up their surroundings.
Sewer or park doesn't matter, just take a look at any place frequented by junkies.
4. Lady said the baby would be her 3rd, but Mr. Journalist didn't bother asking about the other two. Maybe the "landlord" he liked so well sold em.
The woman was cold. No one cared.
5. Has anyone bothered checking the credentials of this doctor Jaime? Claims he has started pulling kids out of sewers in the 1970s, looks a bit young for that.
Bitch ass death squads. Seeing this makes my heart hurt and appreciate what I have more. I wish I could figure out who pays these squads and officers then hunt them down. They're the ones who don't deserve to live.
Anyone in the propoganda industry should be used to swimming in filth. While I think its great to expose this. I dont think doing it on VICE is helpful. It undermines credibility. There is a reputation for manipulation and outright fabrication not to mention a judgemental approach which is going to make people think twice about a case which in reality seems worthwhile. Hopefully this will get out via somewhere a bit more real.
I thought my one bedroom apartment in the hood was bad. Honestly I am so lucky and feel like a shithead for ever feeling like I was disadvantaged. I have a job, a car and a safe clean roof over my head. These people have nothing but each other and even that is not guaranteed living in the sewers of Columbia.
The second the "doctor" I'm with wants to give me acupuncture to "help my immune system" which actually means going into the dirtiest place I can with fresh open wounds for bacteria and viruses to enter my skin, I'm running far away and calling bullshit on anything that quack says.
after seeing this, oh how i feel ashamed for just sitting here able to watch the suffering of others while eating a burger and fries in the saftey of my home. Its such a shame but in the event of a nuclear war these people would survive with no problems at all as they dont need much at all to survive
Omg, just a rat nibbling at my eye... Jesus... I remember years ago my boyfriend and I went to house sit for friends of my sister, we didn't know them, we just moved to Portland Maine and only knew my sister and her husband. Anyway we made a bed of blankets on the floor and was laying around, about asleep, in the dark, and all of a sudden he got super stiff and quite AF. He had me horrified, as he was. He truly thought it was a spider crawling on his back, he just felt fur, ROFLMAO, I jumped up, turned on the lamp and low and behold, it was theee cutest kitten you ever seen. BWAHAHAAHAA!! We bad no clue this chick had a kitten, I guess it was sleeping and hidden. Oh, sweet memories.. It's weird the things you see, hear, smell, that can bring back the strangest things
Excuse me wtf did he just say.... Death squads... The ppl come at night wear masks and come to kill all the street children.... Wot the actual fuck is this evil never heard anything like it ever... !!!!. Jesus!!!
