Huge "Thank You!" to NCS for the EPIC music!
How do I get HomePod Siri to play my subscribed Podcasts? I've not been successful. So far it selects some unknown Podcast in some strange foreign language, that I’ve never subscribed to, and isn’t in my iTunes.
And how do I get HomePod to play the ripped (CD collection) music that I have on my iMac iTunes?
I can stream my song collection via iTunes Airplay, but Siri won't allow me to pick specific songs. I want to be able to pick and choose the songs inside my iTunes collection. Can HomePod do this?
I don't want to subscribe to Apple Music, since all songs that I want to listen to is, is already in my iMac, iTunes songs. So far, the only music HomePod will play are four the songs that I purchased on iTunes.
Very informative review. Thank you. I already have a Bluetooth speaker where I play via my iPhone and can utilise Siri so I think I’ll wait until AirPlay 2.0 to see how I can make use of it all. Unless someone gifts one to me - in which case I might have to do my own review 😉
I was so excited for this thing- just like I was pumped for the iPhone X. I kept my 7 plus because I couldn't reason a laptop price tag for a phone that didn't meaningfully provide more. Now, here again Apple has lost me. It doesn't help that Apple doesn't work well with smart devices. When my $50 ($25) google home mini gives me even more, it's time to branch out. It's too bad too, I enjoyed having a unified ecosystem.
I am basically an apple fanboy, but they dropped the ball on this product.
Keeping my Sonos products for home music until they get this right.
Also, Sonos configures itself based on surroundings not only HomePod.
Hi Daniel! Love your Vids! I've bought an HomePod too, I should have it home in few days...honestly Even with all the limitation you just listed, I believe it's a very good product and since the main reason I got it is to listen greatly my beloved music, I think I will not be disappointed! We'll see!!
HomePod was intended to be the greatest speaker on the planet (at its price). Amazon/Google built the echo/home on intellectuality with a decent speaker.
HomePod can surpass them on intelligence through a software update. But Echo/Google will never be able to surpass the HomePod in sound without upgrading the hardware.
Apple has the upper hand...
I wish people would compare this to Google Home Max instead of only mentioning the smaller Google Home models. I know the HomePod supposedly sounds better, but people don't know this other product is out there.
I ordered 2 HomePods & they arrived today. I bought two for the AirPlay2 capabilities, coming later in the year, in mind. The HomePod sounds great & I’m really impressed so far. Looking forward to what else later updates might bring to the HomePods.
You’re expecting too much from Apple , as they have always been Apple are always limiting there products to iphone users. If they didn’t do that it just wouldn’t be interesting tbh, it’s all about the internals.
F**k apple seriously money grabbing greedy little trolls charging more then there competitors and you can't use it unless you own a apple device this is the height off snobbery and shows what they think of people that think if they shut android users out people will be dumb enough to go buy there devices and there over priced home pod unbelievable
I'm an iPhone, Apple Watch and MacBook user. But there is nothing in Apple's ecosystem to convince me to use it. I use the text messages on your Mac from iPhone and hand-off, but that's it. I really think Apple are going down hill. I have Google Homes and they're much superior.
Thanks Daniel.. I’m in apple eco but not a chance I’d spend money on this. It’s just got too many negatives, are apple just assuming fanboys and girls will be silly enough to buy it because irs apple even with all the flaws? I miss the days when apple did Just Work.
Apple: music quality first, smart speaker second.
But you can't play Spotify or any other none Apple music library on it.
But you can't stream your favorite radio channel on it.
I don't see any quality there
You state in the video that AirPlay 2 is coming in late 2018, but on the Apple HomePod site it clearly states coming later this year, which could mean that, but it could mean in the summer, it could mean in 2-3 months, so are you sure about that?
I wouldn’t get one Daniel! At least not right now. I’m invested in the apple eco system and I still wouldn’t. it’s basically a $350 speaker! I have a sound system in my house and if I want to listen to music I can via Bluetooth. Its extremely limited right now and it sucks. U can’t even make and receive calls. That should have been available at launch. Come on apple! You guys are the most powerful and richest company in America and you can’t even stay ahead. Of the competition. Take some of that money and invest in your self and your product. I love Apple, but coooome ooon GUYS! I have to admit they have been listening and getting better but still. They can do better.
Regarding your negative comments, while these are all true, you need to remember that this has only just been launched. All the negatives you spoke of will be addressed via software updates.
This is just the beginning.
I would honestly buy a HomePod, but really just for the speaker quality. Unfortunately because of my current living conditions and social status, it'd be pretty impractical for me to own one. For that reason, I'm not going to get one, but also because I just don't have enough money at the moment anyway. I'm currently saving up to buy an iPad Pro, that of which I hope they update before I actually can pay for it (and the leaks I'm seeing are very cool!) I'm currently a college student, so having an iPad Pro would be way more useful for me than a HopePod at the moment. That and an Apple Pencil, which I'm also planning on getting.
Apple should put out a "dumb" speaker that does not come with Siri but that can sync as a slave to the main HomePod. Buying two Siri enabled speakers for one room is stupid. And yes this can play sound in 360 but if it is off to one side or another you lose the stereo sound. You need to be able to pair these to run them in stereo.
Another premium priced beta test. It is no wonder Apple is the most profitable company in the world. Even when they ship out unfinished products people pay even more money than what competitors charge. iPhone X = $1200 for the privilege of being a beta tester now this... Can hear Stevie rolling over in his grave.
Hum very disappointing. Apple strategy does need to change or the competition will take over. Compete with quality products not on trying to box people into your brand. Getting more and more frustrated with the brand. I have the iPad, Iphone, apple tv and apple watch but not allowing Spotify is just plain stupidly and greedy 👎🏼
Michel Falardeau--Sorry you haven't been watching Apple the past 10 years. For third parties such as Spotify there will initially be Airplay support. At some point they will publish an SDK for more sophisticated connectivity. I.E. It will be Spotify's responsibility to hook into the HomePod via the SDK. As a very successful platform company Apple totally gets that not all of their customers are going to use Apple Music. By giving third parties SDK access there will be thousands of important improvements to HomePod by third-party developers.
Not sure I’d get it- Apple don’t make it such an attractive purchase. Too many asks for someone who already has iPhone, iPad, iMac. But I have Amazon Alexa and Amazon Prime so can stream unlimited music and make calls as well.
If you have HomeKit, which I do, or use Apple Music, which I do, It fits the need. The lacking features will be coming with software updates. Good Rumor has it that 11.3 will not only bring AirPlay2, but the missing multi-room speaker features. Siri is also mainly cloud based, so just be aware.. Apple is not stupid, they know Siri's shortcomings, they read the forums, they know the pains of their customer base. Since HomePod will bring Siri front and center even more, don't be surprised if this helps speed major improvements on Siri. If you are in the Apple ecosystem, HomePod is perfect for certain use cases. Good video.
