It's been almost a year since the Samsung Galaxy S8 was launched and a lot has changed in the smartphone market. Smartphones with thin bezels and 18:9 displays are commonplace, and the justification needed to replace your current smartphone with a brand new one is even harder to find. With the Galaxy S9 right around the corner, Beau HD pays tribute to the S8 by explaining what he has liked and disliked about the device over the past several months.

My phone was the first to feature a bezeless dispaly. The Sharp Aquos. That was back in 2014ish. But on today's market, my phone is a relic that takes about 3 seconds to load apps or even bring up the camera. Sad to think that 3 seconds is considered "unacceptably" slow. Just now going to upgrade to the s8 and this video is asking, "are you still using an s8"
I had my S8 for roughly 6 months and while it didn't lag all the time, when it did it was really annoying. Yesterday I gave in and purchased the Note 8 and so far so good, the battery while being smaller is better overall. Still waiting on the Android 8.0 update to hit my phone though :/
So last year I made the switch from iPhone 6S to the stunning looking Samsung S8 ..
what strikes me is the huge amount of bloatware that came on this phone ..Android, Samsung, and also T-Mobile ..
I got used to working with the phone to disable a lot of this extra stuff but found that the phone just lagged to much for my taste ..
I am now using an iPhone 8 Plus it’s not perfect but it’s fast ..
I am tempted to try the Samsung S9 but I refuse to spend the silly amount of money that they will ask for it, the same applies to the iPhone X which is not worth $1000.0 to me ..
Why would you say the iPhone 10 in the pixel have one up the Galaxy S8 camera that's not true that's your opinion my girl has the pixel 2 XL and I've got the S8 Plus in my phone is better on Kik pictures probably 7 out of 10 that we take and that's with her saying it too and she wants to like her camera better LOL but like I said it's all just a pain you can't stated as fax I would say the lgv30 in manual mode is better than all of my have that camera to but you got to know how to use the manual mode
samsung engineers were stupid enough to place the fingerprint sensor next to the camera even they know it is not the right place. Then they said they will fix in S9 to screw people up and make more money. Bloody greedy corporations.
you have to be crazy or filthy rich to upgrade from an s8 to an s9. If you have an s7 or below you shoud consider upgrading, but other than that, no. this is the problem. if the consumer upgrades every year the manufactuer will come with less and less inovation to its products because they are certain that sheep will buy them. look at apple.
Radu S. I’m shocked to see people saying they are going to upgrade every year... could you imagine buying a $600+ phone and be like “this should hold me for the year”. Like im gonna hold onto my baby for 3 years if it lasts
Spot on. Still not crazy for the curved edges. Software features are great. Bixby, sigh, the stupid follow up to S-voice. Just let me have google assistant! I did not have the lag issue like in previous galaxy phones. Excited about the 845 chip...
Hi I have the s8 I also have a 256 Samsung sd card the phone is very slow and laggy I've tried everything to speed it up is it because it's loaded with to many apps and the sd card makes no difference the built in maintenance says it's fine but isn't at all any help would be appreciated thank you as I've tried everything.
Love the galaxy S8 plus. The screen is awsome and I love the rear facing camera updated to this phone from my Droid turbo 2 I hated the turbo 2. I get so many compliments when I post pictures on my Instagram. But the selfie camera isn't that great but still good.
got my s8 two days ago, totally love it, had an s7 before, didnt like it at all, switched to huawei mate 10 lite, then i got the offer to trade my s7 + 229 Euros for an S8 and i totally dont regret it. this phone is a beast and it's so friggin beautiful in midnight black, im in love.
I'm a true android guy but when you pay full price for a flagship you should get updates within weeks or at least 60 days of release I hate the way non pixel phones handle updates and can no longer spend that type of money on phones that don't get updates for 9 to 12 months and to top it off they don't even release on the latest update
I am typing this from my S8. Love this phone. It still runs smooth. On past Samsung devices I have owned this would have been in lag city already. There is some stutter here there. I mean like every few days or so. But I can't imagine how well Oreo will improve the life of this device. I won't be getting the S9 despite that it will be significantly more powerful. I will wait for the S10 or Galaxy X whenever they come out.
I'm adding an additional comment to my older one. I have since received the Oreo update. I have to say that I am impressed. I think that over time I will see more benefits but as of right now my S8 has already gotten an extra 45 minutes to an hour of battery life. Still not the best but very good. Also the stutter (except when going into Bixby) is pretty much non-existent. I will have to wait and see but so far this is fantastic. Hopefully Samsung can fix the bugs even more so because as it stands this could be the first line of non stock android phones that run as smooth as a stock android device. Fingers crossed.
I still got my S8+ about 9 months now I was tempted a few times to ugrage to the note the pixel 2 xl and even the Mate10 but I figured at this point I have the galaxy upgrade on Sprint so I might as well just Rock the S9+ when it comes out next month at this point..I have to say it has held up well.. my battery is really the biggest complaint ..I have to charge this phone atleast 3 times a day to her thru a full day..and that is killing me.. it needs alittle more ram also..I think 6gb is gonna be the sweet spot I'm really hoping the S9+ comes with 6gb but the display is second to none.. let's just hope that the S9+ with the dual camera ..better fingerprint placement 6gb of ram and the snap435 chip are gonna really being this phone into perfection...
Only tech reviewers want stock android, Joe public doesn't want to spend hours customising and searching for apps to mirror their old set up. Stock android will never win over the masses it's just too dull
Stop already, complaining about the rear fingerprint reader. I got used to it in 2 hours and it's just fine. Ideally for me, it would be a but 3/4 of an inch lower, at the right back edge...or on the power button. So much to like about the S8 and S8 Plus.
My 4 month old S8 is amazing, smooth as butter and still the most beautiful phone on the market! Also still one of the best in general. Bixby is awesome btw...one just needs to know how to use it and the more you do, the better it performs. They're also updating it all the time. In a combo with Google assistant, it's perfect! I don't get the tech reviewers who say stuff like; I never had any use for the Bixby. You can see right off the bat that they don't know what they're talking about. For those of you who are interested, check the Sakitech's channel and see all the things you can so easily do with Bixby.
Anyhow, as someone who had switched from 7 years of iPhone last year with the S7, and was super happy with that phone (my first android ever)...I just couldn't resist buying the S8 as well, that's how great it seemed to me! Even though I normally use phones for 2 years. And I'm not sorry for getting the S8, not for a second! I'll skip the S9 tho. Not worth the upgrade from the S8 imo. Now, S7 to S8 was a different story. Same with S6 to S7. S5 is a classic to this day. :)
A year latter and it’s laggy as fuck! Choppy slowing down. I am going back to flip phone. Note owners wait awhile it will happen to you next. Sadly software updates are terrible for smart phones. Giving you shit your phone can’t support making you bow down and buy new ones.
People who use iPhones or Pixels are not supposed to be the focus here. They will never switch because they don't like features, innovation and to make their life easier. Samsung did an awesome job and I don't see why everyone is comparing the S8/Note8 to boring stock android devices or completely different OS. It's a fact that Samsung's hardware is the best on the market each year as well as that they have the most features out of any other smartphone OEM out there. If you want to make your life easier, if you like the amazing display/cameras, the convinient Multi Window shortcuts, App Pairs, Edge screens and Edge panels then nobody can beat the Galaxies. Imho it's useless to compare such feature packed giants to boring featureless bricks but to each their own I suppose. Great video btw, and to people who say it doesn't stay fast - my S5 is still as fast as the day I bought it - 3 years ago. If you don't take care of it it won't magically stay fast on its own. It's like wanting an adandoned house to always be clean, even though it's abandoned.
MegasXLR I love my note 4! I also use multi window, and I usually have four apps open at the same time, while I watch YouTube and text! I love that feature 💖. I'm going to get the note 10 next year! Just one more year 😭!
If that is trash then iphone 7 should be the whole garbage can, what smartphone has no headphone jack, Half baked rip offs trash ass features on iphones. Slow charging, trash slowdown software updates, features that 4 year old androids provide, trash multitasking with that trash ass ram..
Would be great to also comment on how the battery has fared since launch (unless I missed it?) My old S6 Edge's battery sucked after merely a year which is unacceptable so hoping you whether things are different with the S8 longevity wise
I'm still using mine and no I will not be upgrading. I love my phone works great and I got so much storage . The fingerprint location doesn't bother me at all, it actually providing another layer of security by reaching for it. I'm right-handed so I know it is on the right side of camera and once I snuggle my index finger in the slot it works. The iris scanner works great as well . I just hope they fix the low light part so it can read your eyeballs at night to unlock device. I'm sticking with samsung. The only high end thing I own, everything else is low to mid eletronics lol. I probably get the S10 when it comes out next year.
