I'm watching this on my Essential PH1 with Oreo 8.1.0 and I love my phone more. Sure the Pixel 2 XL has a better camera, front facing speakers and an oled display but my Essential PH1 is more stock than Google. The screen on the Essential PH1 looks better plus the build quality is the best in the business and it has the same specifications as the Pixel 2 XL. But the Essential PH1 only cost me $499 and I love it.
I stuck with the Pixel 2 since LG is notorious for screen issues, which made it a pain for early adopters of the Pixel 2 XL.
Also the Pixel 2 has a better quality screen and construction especially since Samsung made the display and HTC constructed the phone.
I hope Google leaves LG out of the equation for the Pixel 3 Series phones.
I like when reviewers revisit tech. It's like, why would you hype a product up so much and then boom the "latest and greatest" is no longer the "latest and greatest". It's been forgotten for the new "latest and greatest". I wrote this on a pixel 2xl 😁
Nice video, but I'm still baffled by the fact that not many are bothered by the horrible recorded audio. Video is a number one priority for me when choosing a phone and I just couldn't get past the horrible static hiss that I heard when playing back every video I took. Do you hear it and it just doesn't bother you???
Ive had my Axon 7 for about 1.5 years and im really needing a new phone soon. But it feels too late to get the Pixel 2... should i wait for something new to come out from another android manufacturer? settle for a pixel 2 xl? or wait for the pixel 3? thanks.
I previously had Nexus 6p, loved it! Moved on to s8 which was good but bit laggy and lots of bloatware. Spent a long time looking for next phone, contemplate s9+, note 8 and pixel XL 2. Just ordered by Pixel XL 2 today, google had £100 off which sweetened the deal! Hopefully it doesn't let me down. This video has me excited to get it!
I'm in a bit of a dilemma, my 2-year contract will end this April and I'm looking at either the S9+ or Pixel 2 XL.
For the Pixel 2 XL, I really like the fact that it's from Google, has really nice camera, looks slick and fun to hold. Fast updates for the OS. What I don't like about it is the fact that it doesn't have a headphone jack. I don't like using BT headphones so I was really disapointed with that change. I know I could just use the dongle that the phone comes with but.. I also feel like the screen is not the best compared to Samsung's.
For the S9+, I really like it as well, I've been a Samsung user since S4 and I have no regrets about it. Have always been happy about using their products. I did watch a video comparison of the cameras for iPhone X, S9+, and the Pixel 2 XL and it feels like the photos the S9+ took were awful. I do like their really slow motion video capability though.
Basically what I'm saying is in my imaginary perfect world I'd have a mix of both phones' features:
Pixel 2 XL:
Immediate OS updates
Look and feel
Super slow motion video capability
Anyone who can help me decide? I guess I should watch some more videos before making a decision but most of the time reviews typically over-praise these products.
I might request to get my device replaced. It doesn't bother me on day to day but hearing that the model is most likely going to be better, I'm gonna do it. My current screen has the blue tint & is pretty grainy .
I got my phone in mid December, with a build date of 21 November. I have absolutely no graininess, the colour shift is very minimal and no signs of burn-in. I'm more than happy with the display :) Never had to return it. Best phone out rn!
I'm changing my phones every couple of months and the only phones that didn't have lag are iphone(4s,5,5s,6,6s,7,X, Pixel(2xl) and one plus(3t,5). All my Samsung phones (s4,note 4,s7 edge, s8 plus) have lag. When you using your phone 10+ hours per day, lag is something killing you slowly... And may be accidentally the phone :D
I would get a pixel 2 xl over the samsung galaxy s9+(once it releases) but i really like samsung’s display and they have a headphone jack. I have an iphone 7plus and its fine but the dongle bs is really annoying and inconvenient. So i decided to switch to android, but now i find out most phone companies are removing the headphone jack.
I am still using a nexus 5x. I have not had the boot-loop issues that many others have had, and my phone turns two years old in a couple of weeks. I am on the fence about upgrading to a pixel 2 now, or just using my old nexus till it's battery inevitably wears out. The main two things that put me off are the lack of headphone jack, and the fact my phone still works fine. Should I upgrade?
TonyRedSox that's pretty good advice. It's just because I've seen the pixel 2xl for £43 a month, which cheap compared to other flagship devices... The S9 for example is over £60 a month and the new iPhones are been more expensive. I'm worried the pixel 3 would follow this price trend, as I would not be able to justify spending £60+ a month on a phone
Great review, I honestly can't wait until I get a Pixel 2 XL, I've loved the the, experience of stock Android, since I used a Nexus 6, I could never use any other phone other than a Google phone, my current phone is a Chinese midrange Oukitel K6 which I'm sure you've heard of and its a close to stock Android as you'll get with a Chinese phone and I've replaced most of the Oukitel apps with Google ones as I love Google, and having switched from an iPhone 6s Plus once and for all, I have absolutely no regrets, I love Android and the Pixel 2 XL is my ideal and close to perfect phone. Nice review, which was to the point.
I have galaxy s8, and its gotten slow. Really slow. And somethings are just slow by design like auto brightness takes a long time to adjust when taking it out of the pocket under bright sunlight. Keyboard would open very slow when hitting the search field in all apps. Doesn't matter how good it looks if the everyday experience is painfull. Looking forward to pixel 3 xl or iphone 11.
I personally love this phone about 4 months of ownership as well. Coming from an S7 edge, I never had a issue with the screen surprisingly.. and this is one of the early models produced. The only issue I have with this phone is the speaker up top. It sounds tinny and sounds loose/it's rattling in its place and definitely shows while listening to content.
Again Dbrand advertising....almost all smart phone reviewers mention it on some point in their video.
The thing that i don't understand is that its just a skin, looks cool but still just a skin, doesn't protect device from impacts like phone covers do and at the end of the day you will be using a phone cover which will cover your dbrand sticker, so there's no point getting dbrand sticker unless you don't plan on using phone cover, then good luck with your phone.
