hi. i have been using MOTO X play since last 18 months. few of my friends also purchased moto phones but we all have a problem of battery getting discharged fast and phone getting switched off at various % of battery like 53% 45% 38% 33% 23% 18% and 15% is dead battery. is this a common problem ? this is my 3rd Moto phone. pls respond. i have 5 MOTO phones in my home but am getting apprehensive for buying a new MOTO G5 Plus.
Jarl Grimmsson Hi. Many of my friends bought Motorola phones on my recommendation but each one of them is tired. I just changed my phone and bought a new REDMI NOTE 4. Talked to online support quite a few times but to no advantage.
+ObeyIsOkey I agree . The Moto X cam is good . But my HTC one seems to make better pictures. Since I m not the most fussy guy about camera . It seems Moto X needs you to be more stable to make a clear picture. I will live very well with Moto X for now. I love that bigger screen.
Not being an Apple fan . Had a Galaxy S as my first smart phone. Then I switched to a htc One , Now after the contract , I was allowed to upgrade my phone . So I pick the Moto X play because of screen size. I was hoping to get an htc with a bigger screen . It don't seems to be worth to get another htc if you already have the "htc one" . Anyway here I am with my new MotoX Play . So far I m happy. I d like to know if we can change how the app page is showing . The calendar seems annoying too. I d like to see the whole month as a grid like a paper calendar. I try to download the htc calendar but it s not working lolllll.
+tetedemarc you can change both. For the launcher layout you can just download another launcher from the Play Store (I use Nova Launcher and IMO it's one of the best), as for the calendar you can change its layout from the settings (the three small dots on the top right corner or the sidebar, I can't remember right now)
+Niiko Nope, it will be able to run any app on the play store! Stock Android just means it's not using any added themes from the company that made the phone and it's using Android the way Google intended it to be.
I am using Motorola X Play . Its been 24 hours I have been playing with this device . I was using Sony Xperia Z1 before this phone . I can say the user interface is not that catchy as compared to Xperia but the performance is incredible . Camera quality of both front & back are satisfactory but not upto the level of Sony Xperia Z1 . I must say it doesn't lack anywhere while using . I was expecting a nice photo/video gallery app in this phone & a nice music player like Sony Xperia provides but its provides only Google Play Music for it & I am looking for some effective music player like Sony Xperia .
Conclusion - This device is good & satisfactory . I'll rate 3.5 / 5 .
+Matthew Moniz I just really realized that there was different level of smart phones . I thought they were all competing between each others . Is the a list we can look up which one ranks where ? Or what are the prance range where the cutout happen ? Thanks .
Thank for sharing! The Xperia like is meant to compete with high end phones while the Moto X Play sits with the midrange. Also, the X Play is running more of a stock android which is why it doesn't look as flashy as he Xperia line. A better comparison would be against the Alcatel one touch 3 or ASUS Zenfone 2.
can u pls tell when compare to one plus one which is is better to use moto x play r one plus one i wont play heavy games i need gud quality camera lagging problem should not be there. pls tell immediately i want to buy the phn this week
+Matthew Moniz Yeah I'm considering de 4gb model, but I don't actually play... much. Here in Brazil both are the same price for the 32gb version. I'm still not totally decided but I prefere stock android, good camera and battery life so I think I'm gonna choose the Moto X Play. :) Thanks for the help man.
I've used both of these phones extensively and I agree the snapdragon 615 does lag here and there and you're right the performance is better with the zenfone 2. But besides performance the Moto X Play is better in every way. Display, battery life, external sound, stock Android, better grip in hand and better camera.
If you game a lot get the zenfone 2. Also, if you are considering the zenfone 2 with 4GB of ram and faster processor I'd get that to over the play.
+Matthew Moniz Thanks for the answer man! But did you really tested and use both devices for a while? ASUS Zenfone 2 has some pretty awesome performance and a good overall specs for the bucks. Would you really preferer the Moto X Play because of the battery, camera and updates? 'Cause both ASUS and Motorola actually confirmed Android 6.0 update, but for the future Android 7.0 I'm not sure if neither of them are going to support the devices... I've been hearing a lots of complains about Moto X Play, heating issues, lag issues (most of the complains are related to SnapDragon 615) and the camera for sure is better than Zenfone 2 but not too far better, both have "usable" functional cameras (an Zenfone 2 at least has some nice camera futures with their app, including manual controls and "super-resolution"). I'm asking because i loved these two devices but I'm really confused about whick one should I get. :) thanks for the help man, awesome chanel and videos.
this phone is excellent, the battery and camera are as good as people are claiming they are.
However, the best thing about this phone, is its price! I can't believe it's this cheap. It just proves that we don't need to pay a fortune to get decent phones.
+Matthew Moniz No problem Matt, my pleasure.
The thing is that people need to realise that there are great alternatives that are as good as high end phones and for half the price ( the Moto X play is one of them).
let's stop feeding the greedy companies.
+Bashar A. I agree the battery life and camera are fantastic! The price is a little high in Canada, but it's still a good price. I agree midrange phones are good enough now that you don't need an expensive one. Thanks Bashar for commenting and watching! = )
I'm getting that phone tomorrow. I despise overpriced bloatware phones which made me have the misfortune of getting a Samsung S5 which I knew nothing about at the time when I first got it, 12 months later I sold it for a Nexus 5, loved that phone with plain and simple stock android features. However the manufacturer was LG which meant that I couldn't change the battery, I couldn't add an SD card not only that the phone would get quite hot if I spent a few minutes on lets say the Youtube app. Motorola seem to be the kings of making a good stock Android experienced phone which most people like me need with a bit more power to it compared to my Nexus 5 phone. Back before smartphones were made I remember my Motorola Razor flip phone and that ring tone 'Ello moto' what a classic xD.
Hi Matthew, thanks for getting back to me about this I'm reading the specs now and compared to the LG Nexus 5 the Moto X play has an Octo core processor running at 1.7Ghz where as the Nexus 5 is a quad core running at 2.3Ghz there isn't much difference. However in my opinion I found the audio speaker on the LG to be quite poor not to mention that it had an 8mp camera unlike the Moto X which has a 21 mp camera, had a fiddle with the Moto X play phone at my local Carphone warehouse in the UK and I got solid performance I just think that there are more necessary features on the Moto X like you mentioned with a better screen, longer battery life and the fact that you have a phone that is rare in this day and age to have an SD card slot but yeah I'll definetly let you know how I cope with this phone in a weeks time dude. Good work by the way :)
+John Wilkos John just to let you know this phone won't be faster than the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 will still be a better experience since the Snapdragon 800 chip is a better processor than the 615 inside the Moto X Play. With that being said, the Moto X Play does have a better camera, bigger and better battery life and of course as you mentioned the option to insert a micro sd card.
If you get it let me know how you like it! Thanks for dropping the comment and for watching!
+KimJongin Thanks! = ) It's funny you mentioned that. I just did an Ask Me Anything video and someone asked me how do I maintain my "stubble", so as a joke i said this is a beard. Feel free to check it out and thanks for watching ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4_K68SqA4o
Which is better LG G4 or the moto play ? Battery on moto play is impressive compared to my lg G4 it's cheaper too . Camera isn't as crisp as lg G4 but higher MP . do you noticed apps crash on the moto x play ?
It's pretty close to stock android. Very nexus like with a few useful Motorola features. Like twisting the phone to get into the camera. Being able to call up Google now when the phones screen is turned off and glances that show you your notifications when you move the phone.
+Pradeep Prattipati It comes with some of them. It doesn't have the hand gestures and front facing sensors that hte Moto X 2014 has. But if you move the phone it will show the notifications. But it still has Moto Voice and one gesture to quickly get into the camera. Here is my full review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5uM7F0Ps3s
If you want all the same features of the Moto X 2014, you need to get the Moto X Style (if you don't live in the states) or the Moto X Pure if you do.
I miss the blacklist option on stock android,to bad they didn't include that option. The display it's to big for my comfort, the phone is to heavy also.Anyway, that is the tradeoff for the battery I presume.
I can't wait for mine - which is posted tomorrow. it would be today but it's flaming bank holiday 😂 I think I feel quite lucky as I not had moto x phone before. I'm coming from the original moto g 4g edition. so I feel like its a bigger jump for me and I got twenty four percent off the original price. does this has gesture control (I saw waving over the phone to turn on but I not sure if I dreamt it or it's on the higher spec style) 👍
That's awesome! It's for sure a nice upgrade from the Moto G. It has one gesture control to get to the camera if you twist the phone. It's missing the chop chop action though that lets you turn the flash light on or off. I'm posting my full review today,so stay tuned.
You, Sir, are doing a great job with those videos. I've discovered them just recently and immediately subscribed. And of course, excellent review on the Moto G. My review units of the Moto X Play and Moto G are coming in tomorrow and I can't wait to get my hands on them!
Greetings from Poland, keep up the good work :)
+Matthew Moniz If You can read Polish, You're welcome ;) I'm actually an editor at one of the tech websites here in Poland, but I also start doing some videos for them, maybe I'll do my own thing at some point ;) Anyway You're doing some great stuff herby, definitelly worth watching.
I've had my Moto X Play for over a week now. No overheating issues whatsoever. The battery is a beast. The Moto Voice commands don't always work that well for me. Phone has a premium feel even though it's not, I especially like the rubber back and Motorola dimple as it helps to provide more grip. I chose this phone because I value longer battery life over a quad hd display and I'm very happy with it.
I have to admit the idea of a phone with a two day battery life is sweet... I am certainly using a LGg3 which is great ,except for the battery life which is average as long as you keep the screen not to bright ... Nice job...will be waiting for the full review.
Sometimes I ask myself... why don't the manufacturers do what people wants indeed of going ultra thin and ultra high definition, most people I know are more worry about Battery life, Camera, capable screen (1080p or 2k is more than enough) and Smartphone speed over having a thin and 4K... manufacturers should try a little bit bold phone, with huge battery, great camera, capable screen, stock android to improve speed. because most of the big brands use the same processor and ram, and maybe that's why they do try to left their mark in the design, being thin, and materials. GIVE ME MORE BATTERY LIFE AND YOU'LL GET MY MONEY!!
+Dwight Castillo Because people want toys aka iPhone rip offs.
Phones nowadays are like jewellery. Less function and more show. Otherwise, we wouldnt be using aluminium and glass as "premium" materials or lack or microsd slots...
You can buy watches that cost 5 or 10 euroes. But people still buy 300 euro watches because of prestige.
When my nexus 6 kicks the bucket or when google stops updating it I think I'll stay with motorola, great build quality, no gimmicks and decent cameras now. Perfect combo to me. Oh and don't forget front speakers.
Nice overview Matt!
Waiting for your full review of Moto X Play. Btw, could you please test this on your full review:
1. Do you feel the phone being overheated when using for daily basis? Compared to other phones like M9, G4, or One Plus 2
2. Also, how's the multitasking performance on this phone since it only has 2 GB of RAM?
Thank you 😀
+Ixissimus That's correct it will be sold outside of the U.S and in Canada it sells for around $400 Canadian. However, the Moto X Play will be coming to the US but rebranded as the Droid Turbo and sold exclusively with verizon. It will probably sell for $299 US, that's my guess.
I'd grab the high end one if you dont mind spending $400. The Moto X Pure is what you guys are getting.
nice video Matthew, I'm torn between this and the style, I think what it might boil down to is if the style has some fancy software imagery for the camera that the play won't get and the extra ram for future proofing, who knows what android N or O will be like.
What ever my choice I think I'll pass on a nexus this year and try a moto maker since we have it for UK devices now.
+Darren ! Thanks Darren! The camera should be better on the Style, you also get a faster processor, better screen and more ram. It's going to be thier high-end device of the year. Moto makes there phones pretty close to stock android, so it's a good choice if you like the nexus line but want something a bit different.
